Marigolds! 💛🧡💛🧡

One of my favorite times of year- A huge thank you to Roots Cut Flower Farm for sharing your amazing blooms. Most of the marigolds are the size of my palm. The little guy by my fingers got overlooked. Notice the lovely orange tint to my fingers and nails. That generally lasts a day or two. So much color in each flower. I can’t wait to dye with them.

I didn’t know Second Hand September was a thing. Next year I’ll have to plan something. This year I’ll just keep up-cycling finds into cool “new” clothes. They’ll be available at the Hygge Market in late November and I’m very very happy to say Market of Curiosities !

The auction is live! Bid on this collection I call “ Get Cozy and Knit” - but you don’t have to knit to enjoy it. And there’s lots more unique and wonderful items and gift certificates available. You’ll not only get a one of a kind object but support a great organization that is keeping crafts alive and supporting many artists and craftspeople. There’s a link in my bio.

-full disclosure, I’m on the board as vice president of administration. This is an organization I believe in. 🧡

Fall classes are up! The first one will be -
Eco-dyeing with Staghorn Sumac Talking Breads

Staghorn sumac is one of my favorite local botanicals to dye with. We’ll forage for sumac and dye a t-shirt you bring. There will also be some free time while our textiles cook to have lunch or a snack from Talking Breads and relax under one of their pavilions. There’s a link in my bio to sign up or go to my website and click on workshops - www.dyelab.org

My other classes are on the website and I’ll be posting about them later this week. I hope you can join me.

If you were wandering what happened with the indigo extraction -this is it. Still drying but not bad considering how few plants I grew this year. I’m pretty sure the color is light because of too much calx. I didn’t have a way to read the pH and over did it a bit. I could wash it but then I’d have to decant it again. The process for this came from John Marshall’s book “Singing the Blues”. It is an excellent book.

It’s nice when things work out-
Harvesting the madder that has run amuck as I cleanup my garden beds. And my karma must be good because I need some for a class later this month.

Started a little (a lot) late this year. We’ll see what happens. I think these are scabiosa seeds coming up. The indigo hasn’t budged yet.
