"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."
Art is something I have always loved. You can say I inherited it from a very creative family. As you get older you tend to shy away from the things you love to do, to do the things you feel you have to do to raise your family. I decided to get back into my arts and crafts as a way to give a little something to my family, release some stress, and help with the arthritis that is trying to take over my hands now as well as everything else. I take pride in my work and I am already seeing improvements on my part which has my creativity center of my brain going wild.
I know now days it is easier and cheaper to go to a big box store and home decor items and decorations, but that is not getting something that is personal to you. I like make something that you know is just for you and is special to you and your family.
I would like to share with you what I like to work with. Most arts and crafts are done on thin flimsy boards that you can buy real cheap at Lowes. They can break easy, draw dampness and bend, etc. I use new and worn pallets, T1-11 boards, and wood cuts from trees right here in our area.
Everyone is pretty well associated with the thickness and sturdiness of the pallets but let me tell you about the T1-11 boards. They are pressure treated plywood boards, the same as used in the Estep Portable Buildings storage buildings. They are about a 1/2 inch thick, so they are heavier than you would expect. I use the natural roughness for some things or I sand smooth for others. They will last a very long time.
