ENTRE’s mission is to provide access, knowledge, and skills in the realm of filmmaking, inviting more voices to document, share and archive the vast narrative of US/Mexico border communities. As a regional archive, ENTRE

focuses on the digitization and preservation of RGV-based home movies (video and analog formats) and the collection of oral histories.

In light of the ongoing crises and violence we’re living through, we feel it’s important to uplift Trokas Duras, a beautiful short film by Jazmin Garcia, that demonstrates the power of art, narratives and filmmaking.

Trokas Duras is an homage, funded and supported by the National Day Laborer Organizing Network ( ), which has led efforts to improve the lives of day laborers, migrants and low-wage workers over decades, speaks to the beauty of day laborers’ life and traditions, it also attests to how their culture stands against the common tropes hurled at Latin American immigrants in the United States.

• Trokas Duras Texas Tour: A travelogue of ENTRE’s borderland tour with Jazmin Garcia, the director of the award-winning short TROKAS DURAS (2025). Jazmin, C, Monica and Remedios traveled with the film to San Juan, Harlingen, Laredo, Eagle Pass and San Antonio. Each screening featured a post-screening conversation with local grassroots organizers and leaders.

SUMMARY: On August 31, 2024, ENTRE Film Center & Regional Archive hosted its first Boca Chica, Corazón Grande Beach Happening, Playa de Memorias, a community event aimed at uplifting and activating the place we love, adore and are fighting for. Playa de Memorias was a free offering to our community that featured an art installation in partnership with La Tijera and led by Nansi Guevara, antojitos curated by Luna Vela of Neighborhood Molino and free roundtrip transport from the 77 Flea Market in Brownsville to Boca Chica Beach.

ENTRE aims to raise the visibility of Boca Chica Beach, a humble yet deeply historical coastline that reaches the mouth of the Rio Grande River. Boca Chica Beach has long served as a community beach and sanctuary. Now, this is all at risk of erasure with the ongoing development of private corporations that continue to harm this fragile ecosystem and restrict access to a federal state park and public land.

ENTRE is coming to the San Benito Public Library (July 30) and the McAllen Public Library (August 6) for a special CINE SIN CÁMARA workshop!!!

Cine sin Cámara is an community experimental filmmaking workshop supporting participants of all ages in creating a short film by directly manipulating 16mm celluloid film with sharpies, markers, toothbrushes, sponges, paper clips, and more! At the end of the workshop, we will screen everyone’s film on a 16mm projector!

Walk-ins are welcome, but we encourage folks to be present for the entire duration of the workshop to have enough time to create their films.

This workshop is free and open to people of all ages. Families are welcome! Bilingual instruction will be available.

Larping as a suburban stoner musical, the film traces how the internets memetic sensibility metastasized into American political consciousness, and Trump became the first meme to take office in The White House.

About the artists:
Soda Jerk ( )make sample-based films with a rogue documentary impulse. They are fundamentally interested in the politics of images; how they circulate, whom they benefit and how they can be undone. Their feature film Hello Dankness premiered at the Berlinale in 2023 and has received numerous cinema awards including Best Narrative Feature at the Atlanta Film Festival and the Blackmagic Design Australian Innovation Award. Its theatrical release included an extended run at Film Forum in New York. Hello Dankness followed Soda Jerk’s controversial political revenge fable Terror Nullius (2018), which was disowned by its commissioning body who called the film “UnAustralian”. The Guardian named the “dizzyingly ambitious satirical work” one of the best Australian movies of the decade.
