I’m thankful for being able to experience Danny Mixon’s homegoing service streamed online from Historic Harlem Hospital’s Auditorium.

This allowed me to witness and experience the love, warmth, and admiration poured out among his family and many friends. From the program’s chosen set list, to the easy familiarity, warmth, and camaraderie which Danny has always so naturally spread among musicians, singers, and others made me deeply grateful for having experienced this special event online.
Danny’s pianistic touch and rhythmic flow has been etched in memories that shall linger. Danny appears on my original song African Musing

and he honored me by serving as pianist for my wedding in 2002 at Abyssinian Baptist Church and at the reception in Harlem, where he left an indelible impression upon my family, who also send their condolences.
In September 2005, Danny helped orchestrate my DooWop to Jazz Concert at St. Peters Church, which turned into a benefit for musicians displaced by Hurrican Katrina.
Rest in peace, Danny Mixon. Your legacy endures. Thank you for passing my way.

Harold Jones, one of the most recorded drummers in history, received this year’s MELO Award. His discography spans over 60 years and includes numerous albums and historic performances with Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Ella Fitgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Sammy Davis Jr., Natalie Cole, and many other renowned artists.
