Back to the Future came out in 1985. Marty looked at the horizon and saw flying cars, and honestly, who could blame him.

Back then that optimism made sense. The personal computer was landing on kitchen tables. NASA was flying the shuttle. Every single year something got faster, smaller, and smarter.

If you were a kid in the 80s, you had every reason to believe the next 40 years would be a golden age of building.

So here we are, four decades later. And what did we do with all that promise?

We built a country that cannot agree on what a woman is.

That is not a punchline. That is where a serious chunk of our institutions actually landed. Instead of chasing the next breakthrough, we poured our best energy into DEI departments, CRT struggle sessions, gender ideology in grade schools, and climate panic dressed up as settled science.

We even turned parents into the enemy. Moms and dads now have to show up at school board meetings and fight just to learn what is being taught to their own children. In the 80s that sentence would have sounded insane. Today it is a Tuesday.

None of this is about being anti-progress. AI is rewriting the world right now, and that is real, and that is exciting. Technology never stopped moving. That was never the problem.

The problem is us. The problem is a political class that took a nation full of builders and talked it into a decade of navel-gazing nonsense.

We had the runway to reach for the stars. We spent it arguing about pronouns.

The 80s promised us the future. Progressivism handed us a lecture instead.

Somewhere, Doc Brown is staring at the readout, shaking his head, telling Marty the hard truth. No flying cars. They are too busy fighting over a definition a five year old could give you.
