We have some mythical creatures in our current “Fiction” exhibit! As well as some mythical artists! ;)

Many classic fantasies revolve around mythical creatures – slaying them, bonding with them, or even transforming into them. Bestselling author Katherine Arden talks us through her five favourites, from childhood classics to modern innovations, and the rich worlds these legendary creatures open up.

Carl Sandburg’s Fog, at only twenty-one words in length, imagines the misty cloud of water as if it moved like a cat — a very imaginative take. It was first published in 1916, only three years after the completion of Hanover’s Old Post Office, in which the exhibit will be shared.

over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.”

You can hear Sandburg himself recite the work in a short recording linked in the comments of this post.

Artists are invited to share one or two works that share a connection to the poem in some way. Look for an art call in the coming weeks.
