It is with profound sadness that the Acts of Kindness Theatre Company family mourns the passing of our dear friend and fellow performer, Drew Derreth.
Drew was more than a talented actor—he was a cherished member of our theatre family. He brought warmth, humor, generosity, and heart to every rehearsal, every performance, and every person fortunate enough to share the stage with him.
Audiences fondly remember Drew's memorable performances with Acts of Kindness Theatre Company as Henry Etches in Titanic, George Banks in Mary Poppins, and Joseph Pulitzer in Newsies. Beyond our stage, he portrayed countless beloved characters throughout the region, including the Wiz in The Wiz, Alfred P. Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Lumière in Beauty and the Beast, and many, many more. No matter the role, Drew brought authenticity, dedication, and a genuine love of theatre that made every production stronger and every cast closer.
Theatre people understand that a performance lasts only a moment, but the impact of those who share the stage with us remains long after the final curtain. Drew leaves behind a legacy of laughter, friendship, artistry, and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Today, we imagine that the curtain has risen on a magnificent stage beyond our sight. Perhaps Drew is taking a bow beneath celestial spotlights, surrounded by the company of artists who have gone before him, while the heavens erupt in a standing ovation. We like to think he now has the best seat in the house—a front-row seat from which to watch over the Acts of Kindness stage and the many other stages he graced, smiling as new casts gather, new friendships are formed, and new stories come to life.
Though he may no longer walk through our backstage doors, his spirit will remain present in every rehearsal hall, every opening night, every standing ovation, and every final curtain. His voice, his laughter, and the countless characters he brought to life will forever be woven into the story of our theatre company.
Thank you, Drew, for sharing your remarkable gifts with us. The stage was brighter because of you, and our lives are richer for having known you.
Until we meet again, may your final curtain call be met with endless applause.
