Gilded Age Stage

Gilded Age Stage Welcome to Gilded Age Stage - professional solo shows based in Hannibal, MO. Twain is relevant as ever. Please contact us to learn more.

Take a seat and get to know an intriguing person from the past...and sometimes, a person from the present with an intriguing past! Mark Twain coined the term "The Gilded Age" to describe the United States in the late 1800's. The glittering wealth of some thinly gilded the reality of most - poor working conditions, poverty, and racial injustice. It is Gilded Age Stage's mission to bring real people

from both ends of this spectrum to life on stage. Our inaugural show is "MARGARET: The Incredible Molly Brown", written and performed by Gilded Age Stage artistic director, Erin Kelley, featuring Hannibal's own Margaret Tobin (Molly) Brown, the extraordinary woman beyond the Titanic's most famous survivor. Gilded Age Stage shows are also available for special group performances and for organizations and events at your location!

Have you seen the Broadway musical SUFFS? Although Margaret Tobin (Molly) Brown is not specifically featured in the show, she was a tireless suffragist who worked closely with Alva Vanderbilt Belmont on many issues, including rights for the National Women's Trade Union League. Margaret's final senate run was endorsed by the National Woman's Party (Alice Paul). 🌟 SUFFS streams on PBS through July 31.

Broadway's campy "Titanique" features Deborah Cox as Margaret Tobin "Molly" Brown. While I have not yet seen the show, it seems Ms. Cox has a deep respect for Margaret saying (in part),"I feel so empowered telling Molly's story. It's a real pleasure to be up there, especially knowing the backstory of Margaret Brown and her dedication to fighting for people who don't have much."

The glamorous, golden voiced and unsinkable chanteuse Deborah Cox is returning to Broadway this season in Titanique, a high-camp retelling of James Cameron’s cinematic …

On this day (and every day), I salute the "Heroine of the Titanic," Hannibal's own Margaret Tobin "Molly" Brown. Not only did she lead frightened passengers to the lifeboats and demand (to no avail) her lifeboat return for passengers in the water, she worked tirelessly to raise money and reunite immigrant survivors with their loved ones. She also added maritime reform to her list of causes and remained chair of the survivors committee for years. Margaret was beloved for her efforts and called the "Heroine of the Titanic" until some of the media dubbed her "unsinkable."

March is Women's History Month and "MARGARET: The Incredible Molly Brown" is inspiring programming for your school, organization, or event!

Margaret made her mark on the world with her tireless activism for workers', children's, and women's rights, as a hands-on philanthropist, a robust political candidate, a skilled singer and actor, and oh yes, as the most famous survivor of the Titanic.

Two years ago I performed MARGARET: The Incredible Molly Brown at Garth Mansion as part of a fundraiser for the Hannibal Public Library. What a beautiful tribute to the Garth family in the library!
