Last Thursday was the opening reception for SÁMI REINDEER HERDERS: A PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBIT from Saami Circle North America. Thank you to all of the folks who came out on that beautiful summer evening to celebrate. Marlene Wiusi from Saami Circle North America gave a wonderful and extremely informative talk. And thank you Saami Circle North America for making this exhibit possible with your generous loans.

If you missed the opening reception you still have plenty of time to see the exhibit, it will be up until September 23rd.

The Finnish American Heritage Center is open Monday-Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm

Opening Reception | August 27th | 7 pm -8:30 pm

Marlene Wisuri, the board chair of Saami Circle North America will be here for the opening reception and will give remarks at 7:20 pm.

This exhibition consists of two exhibits on loan from Saami Circle North America. Erika Larsen's, "Walking with Reindeer" and "Sámi Herders in Alaska," as well as artifacts from Saami Circle North America's archive.

Finlandia gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center is pleased to announce a call for entry for the 2nd Biennial of the Friends of Finland juried exhibition of Contemporary, Folk and Traditional Arts and Crafts by Finnish, Finnish American artists, and Finnish-loving friends. The Friends of Finland exhibition is an open call. The exhibition will promote Finlandia Foundation National, Inc. mission of championing Finnish culture and heritage through art.

Lindsey Heiden is the new full-time Curator of the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock, Michigan.

Lindsey brings over 18 years of experience in the arts as a practicing artist, educator, and community builder. She holds a BFA in Painting and a BA in Spanish from Western Illinois University, and an MFA in Studio Arts with an emphasis in Ceramics from the University of Arkansas. Before joining the FFN team, she spent a decade in higher education sharing her love of making and teaching.

Some of you may already know Lindsey as an instructor and ceramics studio manager at our Finnish American Folk School. She has also been actively involved in the gallery this year as the installer for the five most recent shows leading up to this staffing transition. We are excited to see the vision and energy she brings to the Finnish American Heritage Center spaces, including the Finlandia Art Gallery. Please join us in welcoming Lindsey to the team!

The 4th Annual Folk School at Midsummer Exhibit is now installed and welcoming visitors Finlandia Art Gallery in the Finnish American Heritage Center through August 19th.

We hope you can join us for the opening reception this Wednesday, June 17th from 7-8:30pm. Folk School band Kuparikielet will start off the evening with live music from 7-7:30, followed by brief remarks to open both the Folk School exhibit and the Akseli Gallen-Kallela exhibit in the FAHC Community Hall.
