I created the Composition Oracle Deck using a drawing style I developed many years ago while falling in love with Matisse's Cut Out series when it was exhibited at the MoMA. The abstract line drawings in my sketchbook never translated into larger paintings. I always appreciated them most in their simple sketch form. For years, I shelved this inspiration, waiting for the right project to explore it further.

This past year, I was compelled to design my own Oracle deck and knew right away that this drawing style was what I wanted to play with. Each card in the deck depicts an abstraction and a word. The space between recognizable and unfamiliar is exactly where I always find a clear connection to my intuition. Like visiting the museum and looking at the title of an abstract painting, then exploring its visual forms and the potential meaning.

The words in my deck are taken from meanings of cards in the traditional Rider Waite deck. No matter your experience with divination, this deck is designed to provide space for personal reflection. I'm psyched to share it with others!

✨I did chores today before sitting down to make art. What's the difference. I make clean swipes with the sponge in graceful circular motions, quickly swiping oatmeal from the pot. Whipping the counter with a precise flick of the wrist to cleanse ever corner. The same motions follow me into the studio. More romantic than I care to acknowledge, my chores inform my work.✨
