Join me for Step Through History: Hampton Roads Pride Edition 🏳️🌈✨
On Tuesday, May 16 at 6:30 PM at the Wells Theater in Norfolk, we’re coming together for an interactive evening of line dancing, storytelling, and Hampton Roads Pride history in celebration of Pride Month.
This experience is about more than learning steps. We’ll explore the history of Hampton Roads Pride, reflect on the communities and elders who helped carry us forward, and celebrate the power of connection through music and movement. Whether you’re an experienced stepper, a complete beginner, LGBTQ+, an ally, or simply someone who loves history and community, you are welcome here.
One of my favorite quotes from Dan Savage about surviving the HIV/AIDS epidemic is:
“During the darkest days of the AIDS crisis, we buried our friends in the morning, we protested in the afternoon, and we danced all night. The dance kept us in the fight because it was the dance we were fighting for.”
That idea has stayed with me because dance has always been more than entertainment. It has been release, resistance, healing, joy, and community.
In a world that can feel heavy, uncertain, and divided, this session is an opportunity to come together, move together, laugh together, and remember that Pride has always been about community care, resilience, and showing up for one another.
So come step through history with me as we honor the past, celebrate the present, and think about how we carry the torch forward for the future.
💃 Open to all dance levels
