The DAY Program

The DAY Program Harnessing the power of rhythm, movement, and creativity to cultivate cultural empowerment, self-regulation, and collective wellness.

Rooted in breath, guided by rhythm, and flowing with intention—Drum, Artz & Yoga. The DAY Program is committed to sharing the wisdom of yoga and the culture of African dance and drum authentically in a safe and nurturing atmosphere in order to bring greater health, happiness and well-being into the lives of those in our community. We strive to impart this knowledge in the spirit of healing, love

, transformation, and service. We share a vision of higher states of consciousness and embrace the path of self-realization.

Healing doesn’t happen in just one way.

We’re honored to partner with The Empowerment Center to expand access to wellness, peer support, and recovery-focused programming throughout our community.

Through this partnership, The DAY Program brings culturally rooted wellness experiences that include West African drumming, breathwork, yoga, and healing garden activities—creating opportunities for people to connect, regulate, heal, and grow.

Whether it’s a youth drum circle building confidence and self-control, an adult finding stress relief through rhythm, a guided breathing experience, gentle movement, or hands-on healing through nature, our goal is simple:

To meet people where they are and provide pathways to healing that feel authentic, accessible, and empowering.

Two connected forces. One shared mission.

Healing. Empowerment. Community Growth.

Before the performances.
Before the rehearsals.
Before serving others.

You have to take care of the instrument that carries you through it all.

Today, that looked like time at the beach.

For us, cultural wellness isn’t just something we teach. It’s something we practice.

The rhythm of the ocean. The sound of the breath. The space to slow down and reconnect.

This is the heart of The DAY Program.

Breathe. Move. Restore. Repeat.

Soon we’ll be offering pop-up beach experiences around the 757 where we’ll hold space with you and for you through rhythm, breath, movement, and community.

Feel Your Rhythm.

Happy Birthday Brittany! 🎉

From the very beginning of The DAY Program, you’ve been part of the journey as a dancer and drummer, and we’ve shared a lot of years and experiences together through the ensemble.

Willing you a birthday filled with peace, joy, growth, and beautiful moments ahead. May this next chapter bring you more confidence, happiness, and opportunities to shine in your own way.

Happy Birthday from The DAY Program family.

The DAY Program will help carry the spirit of remembrance through traditional West African drumming at the 15th Annual International Day of Remembrance Ceremony- hosted by The Sankofa Projects.🪘🪘

The remembrance tradition was initiated in 1989 by activist and scholar Toni Cade Bambara. In 2012, Chadra Pittman brought the ceremony to Hampton to help give voice to this often untold chapter of history through community remembrance, procession, libation, poetry, drumming, song, and collective reflection.

The day will include:
🕊️ The Ceremonial Remembrance Walk
🌊 A procession to the water
🪘 Drumming & traditional songs
🎭 Poetry & theatrical performances
💧 The International Libation at 12 PM happening simultaneously across the United States

📍 Outlook Beach at Fort Monroe National Monument
📅 Saturday, June 13, 2026
🕚 Starting at 11 AM
🎟️ Free and open to the public

We hope to see the community come together in remembrance, reflection, and rhythm.

Happy Mother’s Day to Bonita, Squeaky, Journey, Jah, Muni, Moon, and Dea. ❤️

Thank you for every rehearsal, every performance, every ride, every moment of support, every word of encouragement, and every way you continue to show up for your children and our community.

Thank you for trusting us with your children, for bringing them consistently, for participating, helping behind the scenes, and for being part of the village that keeps this work moving forward.

So much of what people see on stage is only possible because of the love, time, patience, and sacrifice happening behind the scenes.

Today we celebrate and appreciate you. Thank you for being part of The DAY Program family. ✊🏿✨
