Creating a cinematic look in your photography can add drama, mood, and depth, giving your photos a film-like quality that stands out. Want to take your Lightroom editing to the next level? Here are some ways to achieve a more cinematic look in your photos:
1. Adjust the Exposure and Contrast
First, start by balancing your exposure. Cinematic photos often have deep contrast, so after setting your exposure, bring down the highlights and lift the shadows slightly. This creates a balanced, moody foundation. Don’t be afraid to increase contrast to make the light and dark areas more dramatic—this helps mimic the high-contrast look of cinema.
2. Create Color Grading with Split Toning
Color is key for that cinematic feel! Head to the color grading panel and start working with the shadows, midtones, and highlights. Add cool blue or green tones to the shadows, and warm golden or orange tones to the highlights. This contrast between cool shadows and warm highlights is essential.
3. Add Subtle Vignetting and Grain
Finally, for the finishing touches, apply a subtle vignette to draw the viewer’s eye toward the center of the frame, and add a bit of grain for texture. This mimics the organic feel of film, making the image feel more timeless.
