The tightly focused psychological drama, AGNES OF GOD is both a character study and a murder mystery. When a newborn child is discovered dead in a cloistered convent, a court-appointed psychiatrist must unravel the mystery surrounding a young novice nun who claims no memory of the birth. Called by the New York Times, “a melodramatic clash between rational science and divine faith,” AGNES OF GOD will leave audiences questioning their own beliefs long after the curtain falls.

The cast are all veterans of Fool Moon Theatre productions. Kate Read was recently seen in A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM and A BAD YEAR FOR TOMATOES, Satya Byers in PIPPIN and THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, and Pattye Herron in LOST IN YONKERS and BLUE YONDER.

“This is a terrific cast performing a challenging play,” said the play’s director Paul Herron. “Fool Moon Theatre loves to push the boundaries of the local theatre scene.”

This production was made possible by funds from the Atlantic County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Fool Moon Theatre’s next production will be LOVE, LOSS & WHAT I WORE, on November 12 at The Eagle Theatre in Hammonton, NJ as a benefit for The Funny Farm Rescue & Sanctuary in Mays Landing.

Summoned to a convent, Dr. Martha Livingstone, a court-appointed psychiatrist, is charged with assessing the sanity of a novice accused of murdering her newborn. Miriam Ruth, the Mother Superior, determinedly keeps young Agnes from the doctor, further arousing Livingstone’s suspicions. Who killed the infant, and who fathered the tiny victim? Livingstone’s questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of faith and the power of love, leading to a dramatic, compelling climax.
