The Outlet Dance Project is an annual festival of artists sharing their vision through site-specific dance and film at Grounds For Sculpture. In its 18th year, the festival champions the work of women and people of marginalized genders. The festival celebrates the intersections of visual and moving arts, exploring relationships between sculpture and dance, between place and movement.

Originally created as a event , this , explores how we embody personal and communal movement languages, through containment and connection in domestic and public spheres. The artists invited both and recreational movers to move inside six-foot square sheets delineated with geometric forms and cosmological patterns. As we occupy this present liminal zone, the artists create a place for visitors to inhabit that is at once intimate and communal.

Gabriel Ramirez is a Q***r Afro-Latinx writer, performer and educator. A 2023 Gregory Djanikian Scholar in Poetry at Adroit Journal. Gabriel has received fellowships from Palm Beach Poetry Festival, The Conversation Literary Arts Festival, CantoMundo, Miami Book Fair, a graduate fellow at The Watering Hole, and a participant in the Callaloo Writer’s Workshops. We are honored to champion the stories of women and in this captivating and important directed by Shilpika Bordoloi, themes of are explored.
Mau: The Spirit Dreams of Cheraw is a performance from Mizoram, through Cheraw and ritual folklore, revealing the forgotten memory of the story of the mother who dies at childbirth. The film shows a re-imagined dance of the mother spirit. Bamboo Dance was performed as a way to pacify the soul of the mother who died in childbirth. Bamboo is part of the geo-political history of Mizoram and the many other states in the North-east of India. Hence the loss of this intergenerational maternal memory is the crisis of culture, the climate of a place.

Now in its 14th year, The Outlet Dance Project is an annual festival of artists who identify or have identified as women sharing their vision through site-specific dance, film, and work created for the stage. The Outlet is dedicated to supporting all traditional and nontraditional dance forms. In partnership with Grounds For Sculpture – an internationally renowned contemporary sculpture park – the festival celebrates the intersections of visual and moving arts, exploring relationships between sculpture and dance, between place and movement. Through partnership, collaboration, community building, interdisciplinary experimentation, and performance, The Outlet Dance Project strives to enrich the region with dance.
