It's really wonderful to see the work my colleagues and I are doing to support houses of worship getting the attention of publishers like Front of House Magazine!

It's a great honor, along with my colleagues and industry partners, to support houses of worship in delivering the most immersive experience possible to their remote participants. Vincent Gabriel Antonini, CTS of DPA Microphones has been one of my most valued collaborators in this work, which has once again been recognized in multiple online publications. Here's an article in the most recent issue of Front of House Magazine.

This was a unique and rewarding task performed for the Monmouth Civic Chorus. I've been their regular recording engineer for several years, but last night, they performed Sarah Kirkland Snider's Mass for the Endangered, which utilizes 64 video animations that needed to be displayed, on cue, throughout the piece's 6 movements. I was told that the assembled forces would leave very little room for displays, so I rented 2 65-inch flatscreens and loaded the videos into a show on my Telestream Wirecast production laptop. The videos all contained reference audio, which I used to locate the cue points and markup a PDF for display in the forScore iPad app. The rented screens arrived just under 2 hours before start of show, and thankfully everything went according to plan. It was a stunning performance!

The consensus in Livestreaming circles seems to be that you need at least 5Mbps of upload speed to run a hi-definition broadcast. I was called upon to produce the video signal for an event from a park Port Washington Long Island yesterday, where I would need to provide my own Internet service. I felt reasonably confident (but still a little nervous), knowing that there was a tower a few blocks away from the venue with cellular transmitters for all three major carriers. My cellular router (with a huge freakin' antenna attached) was able to combine the bandwidth from T-Moble and Verizon to give me more than double the needed upload speed. Big thanks to my friends from 5Gstore.com for helping me acquire and run the equipment necessary to pull off another successful day in the trenches.

Responding to a last-minute request for video switching/recording and hybrid meeting services has literally won me a new extended family of bold difference makers. It is with amazement and gratitude that I return from a 2-day engagement to support the National Trauma Education and Policy Institute's first Impact of Incarceration on our Communities Conference. I arrived in D.C. this past Monday with cameras, networking equipment and a video switcher to create a production infrastructure patched into the hotel's soundboard and projectors. We were able to capture stories both poignant and inspiring and allow remote presenters to interact with the conference attendees via Zoom. This group is truly doing God's work! It's an incredible honor to support their mission, not to mention learning about the courageous path many of them have tread from incarceration to personal triumph.

The The LOTUS Project of Trenton, Inc. presented yet another sublime and deeply moving program this last Veterans' Day, and Front Row Seat Productions LLC was privileged to capture and preserve it for posterity. We're thrilled that they've chosen to share so much of the recording on their YouTube Channel. That they have grown to marshal the passion and talent of so many in the Greater Trenton Community is truly inspirational. We're proud beyond words to serve them as a trusted resource.

I needed to provide a digital piano in a show my company is supporting this weekend, and the action on my trusty Yamaha P-80 was sounding EXTREMELY LOUD on key releases. Thanks to a number of kind souls who've shared their experiences on YouTube, I learned that this is a common problem, where the strip of felt that the touch-sensitive action rests on when the keys are released hardens and flattens out with age. An extremely laid-back, but helpful support tech at Yamaha24x7 (yes, that's what they call their support organization!) identified the replacement strip and assured me it wouldn't be "too difficult" to replace. He wasn't wrong... mostly. It's still pretty scary when you take one of these beasts apart and separate the part that thinks it's actually a piano from the part with all the circuit boards. I've attached pictures that show the old strip below the replacement. Everything's put back together and working perfectly again. And the action is SO MUCH QUIETER! There are still lots of kind souls roaming our universe, and I'm so grateful for them!
