So, I was able to finish before the storm. So devastating, the loss of life, homes, businesses, roads. People still out of electric, cut off from stores and fresh food and working bathrooms. Appreciate what comforts you have, take care of your people when you can.
These are all Maui laiki, the cowry was given to me and actually made me obsessed with making this lei. Its pretty large, fairly perfect and from someone in Waialua, so i just had to. Strands are 47", cowry and puka shells are 3 1/2", so piko length on me. I have to wear it for a few more days to let it settle in.

100% Maui Laiki 'apu'upu'u, as many color variations as I could sort(except for the ones I need for my personal lei). This is how I like to keep the strands organized in the lei. Sure they move, but they can sit fairly neat, if you know what you're doing. Moloka'i trip was canceled, dangerous weather, so I might as well work on this lovely, and try to stay off the internet to keep a little sanity. People really need to drive with respect, its as if the leadership is poluting people's hearts. Stay safe.

100% O'ahu shells. Kamoa ke'oke'o and momi ke'oke'o waha 'ula'ula, three and four strand patterns. This was a custom order where the young lady looked through my past posts to find the only lei I have ever done in this pattern. That amazed me, she looked through them all. Kamoa instead of kahelelani, she looked so pretty! A birthday gift for a friend, how thoughtful. Have a fantastic weekend, treat others with care.

Variety is part of nature. Try to treat others with respect, even if you don't agree with them, but don't just let people treat you rudely. I hope you have a good day!

O'ahu momi ke'oke'o maika'i and kahelelani ula'ula, with a strand of Ni'ihau kahelelani akala pua, in my favorite original design. This is a four strand lei, very small shells, so not a chunky lei. Sizing shells is where you get your different sizes for different lei. These akala pua(flower pink) kahelelani, are the ones that were too large for that other lei(will post pics of them together, bombai). I didn't expect to be able to make this lei so long, but I couldn't waste the opportunity. The lei is 25" long, earrings 2". It takes years to sort the right size and color for a lei like this. Finally a few earrings made. Its been so hard to stay positive lately. I haven't posted these on Etsy yet, actually, I don't have a single item on there at the moment. I just want to make lei, and not simple kine, ones that take at least a week to string. I'll post some updated pictures of the Maui laiki lei soon since I added a few more strands. I decided I had to make this lei longer. After everything I had done to get more Ni'ihau kahelelani, I had to use them to their full potential. Now im at 24 1/2", can go a little longer, depending. These are very tiny kahelelani, hand sewn, 7 shells per row, 12 rows per inch. I hope you are having a fantastic day being your best self!
