Latest update on Dad , we are discharging him tomorrow from
The skilled nursing facility. Unfortunately dad now has an infection in his lower leg now (in a small wound)and based off of certain factors we feel his care and rehab going forward will be a better fit for him at Home. He will be going to meritus infusion center for antibiotic infusions for 10 days and home health for wound care and rehab for about two weeks and then rehab at an outpatient facility for the hip. Thank you so much for everyone’s support! I have learned a lot navigating all of this and that you have to be an advocate for your loved one! Never stop pushing and asking questions. Get second opinions, etc. This is the plan as of right now but of course things can change . Again thank you to everyone who has been supporting him and our family during this time!

I keep saying we have the best friends and family in the world! This is incredible. Thank you so much! Dad and Mom do not like to ask for help but truth be told this would help them tremendously. Thank you so much for your consideration and for all your love , prayers and support ! I just told him that this was created and he is crying because he didn’t even know this was a thing ❤️

Trying to keep everyone who has been asking as updated as best as I can , this all has been very traumatic, emotionally and physically exhausting and we have just been so worried. Which I’m sure many of you know the feeling! Mom’s been spending every night at the hospital and I’ve been trying to be there as much as I can! To recap , Sunday morning dad fell at home and broke his hip, Monday at 4 they began the surgery and before the surgeon even started he went in to cardiac arrest and they were able to get him back with chest compressions etc. they finished the surgery ( they did a nail procedure on his hip so he can bear weight quicker than a typical break) he remained sedated and was moved to the ICU. They told us he would remain there over night and in the morning start to ween him off the vent and other meds. We got a call that he woke up by himself and they were able to take the ventilator out. Dad already has some other chronic conditions and not very mobile , so all of these things make it difficult and more at risk. They are finally getting the blood pressure up and sugar down. Heart looks like it’s functioning ok. His legs are swollen but that to be expected with his kidneys but also a concern because he’s not been mobile. As of today they are keeping him at the hospital for a few more days( who’s knows) but because he will require intense physical therapy they are wanting him to go to a skilled nursing facility for a few weeks once he is released for rehabilitation. As you can imagine he just wants to go home and is having a hard time emotionally ( we all are) . Does anyone have experience with a similar situation? We haven’t gotten a lot more details because today was only he second day of PT at the hospital. Has anyone chosen home health over a skilled nursing facility? Hiring a heath aid etc? Trying to advocate for him and give him the best possible treatment and making sure it’s best for him. Any suggestions or advice is greatly welcomed. It’s a lot to navigate and we so very thankful for all of your thought and prayers and encouragement! Thank you to all friends and family for being so supportive and helpful! It’s means the world. He has his phone and is up for phone calls if you want to check in with him!

Update on dad , sorry it’s taken a little while for those that have been asking . It’s been a lot, good news right now is he is off the ventilator and breathing on his own! He’s awake and talking to us ❤️❤️❤️❤️ he will be in the ICU for a few more days as of right now. They are running a ton of tests on him right now. We do know he is in diabetic ketosis right now ( probably spelled that wrong) and they are trying to get that under control. Need to get tests for heart , kidneys, etc and another exray to make sure he doesn’t have fractures in his ribs etc from chest compressions. Basically yesterday as soon as they put him to sleep ( before the surgeon even began) his blood pressure tanked and they could not get a pulse. They were able to do chest compressions and get his heart beating again and get a pulse back and blood pressure up to finish the surgery thank goodness. Waiting on results from a lot of tests for more information

Unfortunately there was an incident that occurred at the start of the procedure and they could not get a blood pressure and had to do chest compressions. They were able to stabilize the blood pressure with medication to finish the procedure. He is heading to ICU now to determine what happened and also to see if they can ween him of blood pressure medication so he can be stable on his own. He will remain on the ventilator until they know it is safe . They have to do chest exrays to determine if there were fractures in the chest from compressions
