Hip hop was brought to life in New York City in the 1970s by youngsters making something positive out of tough conditions, creating an art form. Peter Arizmendi, owner of Fresh Academicz, has taken what he learned in New York City and leads an urban arts academy in downtown Hagerstown. ted in a storefront in the Arts and Entertainment District of downtown at 60 W Washington Street, Hagerstown, MD. The studio offers instruction in break dancing, popping, hip hop choreo, graffiti, MC/rap/poetry, acro ballet, and hip hop fitness. Arizmendi, who was born in New York City, first started hip-hop dancing when he was 12 years old. He eventually got paid gigs, and videos of his dance moves can be viewed on YouTube under his dancing name, “Bam The Liquid Robot.”

The vision of Fresh Academicz is to have a positive impact on the area by leading individuals to explore the “purity of hip hop.”
