A child who naturally sings, hums, or chats happily may be showing signs of feeling comfortable, secure, and emotionally connected with the people and environment around them. According to Polyvagal Theory, the voice is closely associated with pathways involving the vagus nerve, which plays an important role in regulating functions such as heart activity and the body’s response to stress. Cheerful vocal behaviors may appear when a child feels safe enough to communicate, interact, and express emotions freely. Singing and humming can also involve controlled breathing and vocal rhythms, which may accompany calmer and more socially engaged states. Because of this connection, everyday behaviors like playful chatter, spontaneous songs, and gentle humming can provide useful clues about how a child is responding to their surroundings and how comfortably their nervous system is managing emotional and social experiences.

ChildrenSong of New Jersey is seeking a Children's Choir Intern for the 2026–2027 season!

This is a wonderful opportunity for college students or aspiring music educators to gain hands-on experience in choral music education and nonprofit arts administration while working alongside experienced music professionals.

As an intern, you'll:
🎵 Assist with weekly rehearsals
🎤 Support performances and concerts
🎼 Help with educational activities and young singers
🌟 Develop valuable leadership and teaching skills

If you're passionate about music, enjoy working with children, and want to grow as an educator and musician, we'd love to hear from you!

Rehearsals: Monday evenings & Saturday mornings in Haddonfield, NJ
