My senior year in high school RG Evans took a group of freaks and geeks on a field trip to the Dodge Poetry Festival. We spent the day listening to poets like Billy Collins and Lucille Clifton and just wandering around the festival immersed in a culture of artists. Outside of a dust jacket, it was the first time I saw the people who put the words on the page and they were all so studied in that high art of hanging out…reading poems, fiddling with weird instruments, dipping their feet in the creek. It is wild to see my name on the program for this year’s Dodge Fest along with the Poet Laureate of the United States (Arthur Sze) and fu***ng Patti Smith. Saturday October 17th at 3:00 I’ll be doing a short set on the Community Catalyst Stage and then probably wandering around with a funny hat on until it’s time to check out the Def Poetry Jam reunion. Looking forward to saying hey to some cool folks.
