One of my favorite things about history is that we're still discovering it.

Even in a world where it feels like everything has been documented, forgotten photographs, films, letters, and stories continue to surface decades later.

I recently came across this incredible footage of Elvis in Oklahoma from the 1950s. Imagine that—nearly 70 years later, we're still uncovering pieces of history that help us better understand a moment in time.

It's one of the reasons I love places like The Guthrie Depot. Historic buildings aren't just old structures. They're storytellers. They hold memories, moments, and connections to people who came before us.

Every once in a while, a forgotten piece of the past resurfaces and reminds us why preserving history matters.

Long before sold-out arenas and worldwide fame, he was traveling through our state performing for crowds that had no idea they were witnessing music history in the making.

I love that.

Because history isn't history while you're living it.

It's just another Friday night.

Another concert.

Another memory.

And then years later, you realize you were part of something special.

That's what makes events like this so meaningful.

On October 3, we'll celebrate the music, memories, and magic of the early Elvis years with Young Elvis starring Trent Smith & the Rip It Up Band.

Before Elvis Was The King...

Before Elvis was "The King," he was just a young musician traveling from town to town, performing across Oklahoma in places like Lawton, Altus, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City.

In 1955, nobody knew they were watching a legend in the making.

Nearly 71 years later, we're bringing that same Young Elvis spirit to The Guthrie Depot.

The Depot was already standing when Elvis was touring Oklahoma. Generations of travelers passed through these doors chasing new adventures, returning home, and making memories with the people they loved.

On October 3, we'll gather in that same historic space for an evening of music, stories, and nostalgia as Trent Smith & the Rip It Up Band bring the early years of Elvis Presley back to life.

Some nights are entertainment.
Some nights become memories.
I have a feeling this one will be the latter.

One of my favorite things about The Guthrie Depot is that people have been gathering here for well over a century.

On October 3, we’ll add another chapter to that story.

There’s just something fitting about listening to classic Elvis music inside a historic train depot while enjoying dinner with friends and family.

This isn’t just a concert.

It’s an experience.
