Auditions for The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow will take place Monday, September 7 and Tuesday, September 8, 7PM, at the Players' Back Door Theater, 1619 49th Street S, Gulfport, FL. Jeffrey M. Lukas will direct this stage adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's film and is looking for four actors to play 150+ roles.
SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theater! This two-time Tony and Drama Desk winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of four), an onstage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and some good old-fashioned romance.
CAST BREAKDOWN:
Richard Hannay:
male presenting leading man type, 20s-50s, suave, debonair, strong British accent, excellent physical comedy and stamina, resourceful, slightly full of himself, onstage for most of the play.
Annabella/Pamela/Margaret:
female presenting actor, 20s-50s, plays three very different women.:
- Annabella: mysterious spy German or Russian accent.
- Pamela: Hitchcock blonde ingenue, English accent.
- Margaret: shy Scottish farm girl, Scottish accent. Must shift quickly between characters. Strong physicality and comedic timing.
Clown 1 and Clown 2:
These two actors play everyone else, over 150 characters, 20s-50s, any gender, extremely versatile, strong physical comedy, quick-change masters, wide range of accents (English, Scottish, German, Cockney, etc.) high stamina, improv experience helpful.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and improv elements. All roles are open and unpaid.

The 39 Steps will be presented at the Catherine Hickman Theater, November 12-22.
