The Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra is comprised of professional musicians from across the Gulf South region.

Under the direction of Dr. Peter Rubardt, Music Director, the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra is in its 61st year of bringing classical music to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Founded in 1962, The Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra’s mission is to cultivate, promote, foster, sponsor, and develop the understanding and love of the musical arts on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

There is something truly special about watching Dr. Jorge Gonzalez perform. The emotion he brings to every note, the way he commands the stage… it stays with you long after the music stops.

Saturday’s performance of The Violin Speaks was everything we hoped it would be, and then some. From the first note, it was clear this evening was going to be something truly special.

Our conductor, Dr. Jorge Gonzalez & soloist, Rainel Joubert, were absolutely breathtaking.

And YOU! our incredible audience, brought the energy that makes nights like this possible.

Meet our soloist for The Violin Speaks!! 🎶 🎻

Rainel Joubert is an accomplished Cuban violinist, recognized as a soloist, concertmaster, chamber musician, and educator. He serves as Concertmaster of the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra and has appeared with major ensembles including the Houston Symphony and Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. A finalist in the Sphinx Competition, he is known for his dynamic and versatile performances.

Joubert is also a dedicated educator, teaching with the Sphinx Performance Academy and leading masterclasses at institutions such as The Juilliard School and UT Austin. His work as a Community-Embedded Musician with the Houston Symphony reflects his commitment to expanding access to classical music.

A co-founder of the Orquesta de Cámara de La Habana, Joubert trained in Cuba and has performed at international festivals and alongside renowned artists like Gustavo Dudamel and Pinchas Zukerman. He is a multiple time recipient of the MPower Artist Grant.

Introducing Dr. Jorge I. Gonzalez – Violinist & Conductor🎻

A Professor of Music at William Carey University, he serves as violin professor and conductor of the WCU Orchestra.

He is also the founder and artistic director of the Hattiesburg Youth Orchestra and Orchestral Academy, a position he has held since 2005.

Dr. Gonzalez has performed across Mexico, Colombia, Canada, Ecuador, Switzerland, Austria, and the United States, and has worked alongside world-renowned artists including Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Sarah Chang, and Plácido Domingo.

He has guest conducted ensembles such as the Meridian Symphony, Mobile Symphony, and Southern Mississippi Symphony.

A recording artist with the Conspirare Ensemble, he contributed to the GRAMMY-nominated album Threshold of Night.

He currently serves as concertmaster of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Symphony and is a frequent guest artist with orchestras and festivals nationwide.

Meet the section: Strings 🎻

They're the soul of every performance and chances are, the first sound you notice when the lights go down.

Our string section is made up of violins, violas, cellos, and basses, and together they create the warm, sweeping foundation that holds the entire orchestra together. From the softest pianissimo to the most powerful fortissimo, they carry you through every emotion a piece has to offer.
