🏛️ Let's talk about our venue 🎭

IMPAC aka the Immersive Media Performing Arts Center! It’s home to every MGCS concert, but it's so much more than that for the ms gulf coast!

It's a fully functioning training ground for MGCCC students studying lighting, sound, and stage production. It hosts touring artists, comedy shows, and musicals. It welcomes school field trips. And it regularly offers free community events.

When you buy a ticket to see us, you're supporting a whole ecosystem: students learning their craft, a venue serving the whole community, and live music right here on the coast ☀️

🎷 7 weeks until the blues come home 🎷

Picture this: a full symphony orchestra behind a blues band, filling iMPAC with sound from every direction..strings swelling under a guitar solo, horns answering a vocal line, drums driving it all forward.

This isn't a typical night at the symphony, and it isn't a typical blues show either. It's both, at once, live, in one room.

7 weeks out. Are you ready?

🎷 8 weeks until the blues come home. 🎷

"Symphonic blues" might sound like a contradiction. Blues was built on a handful of instruments: guitar, harmonica, a rhythm section..raw and stripped down. So what happens when you hand that sound to a full orchestra?

You get scale. Strings that swell behind a guitar bend. Horns that punch where a single sax used to carry the whole line. And this isn't a recording, it's your own Gulf Coast Symphony musicians on stage, live, playing alongside touring blues artists.

That's the experience waiting for you at iMPAC this October.

🎷 9 weeks until the blues come home 🎷

Morgan Freeman isn't just narrating this story; he's part of it. He's called Mississippi home for decades, and he's put real work into preserving the state's blues legacy, including co-owning a blues club in Clarksdale, the town where much of this music was born.

That connection is why this show hits different. It's not a celebrity narrator borrowing the blues..it's someone who's spent years invested in keeping this sound alive, bringing it to a symphony stage right here on the coast.

This October, Morgan Freeman's Symphonic Blues Experience comes home.

The Story Behind Your Gulf Coast Symphony 🎼

Did you know? The Mississippi Gulf Coast Symphony was founded in 1962 by a group of interested community leaders headed by Dr. J.A. Graves and his son, Dr. Thomas Graves, and became one of the first orchestras in Mississippi.

What started as a group of passionate musicians with a shared vision has grown into something truly special for our community.

Today, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Symphony has about 60 musicians strong, and the symphony typically presents five to six shows a year, starting in the fall and running through early summer.

The Mission? Simple. It’s to entertain, inspire, and educate our communities and neighborhoods through the unifying power of music.

For over 60 years, MGCS has been that cultural heartbeat: connecting our Gulf Coast community through the power of orchestral music.

From Beethoven to blues, from holiday classics to groundbreaking collaborations, they're committed to making live symphony accessible to everyone.

That's what makes MGCS special.

It's not just about the music…it's about a community that believed classical music belonged here. And they were right.

🎷 10 weeks until the blues come home 🎷

By the time the blues went electric in Chicago, its fingerprints were already everywhere. Rock 'n' roll, soul, R&B, even country: all of it borrowed the blues' bent notes, call-and-response, and raw emotional honesty. Elvis, the Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin — trace any of them back far enough, and you land in the same place: a 12-bar blues progression born in Mississippi.

That's the thread Morgan Freeman's Symphonic Blues Experience picks up this October…one genre, a century of influence, told through a full orchestra. It's not just a concert. It's American music's family tree, live on stage.

11 weeks until the blues come home 🎸

The blues didn't stay in Mississippi. In the early-to-mid 1900s, many musicians left the Delta for Chicago, chasing new opportunities in the city and they brought the music with them. There, the raw acoustic Delta sound plugged in, literally: guitars went electric, and the blues got louder, faster, and ready for a city audience.

That evolution, from a Delta front porch to an electrified Chicago club…is part of what makes the blues one of the most influential sounds in American music. This October, Morgan Freeman's Symphonic Blues Experience brings the whole journey to the Gulf Coast stage.
