I want to address what happened at Good Times Sports Bar this weekend because I believe in being completely transparent with our players, customers, and the pool community. I am not going to try to hide what happened or pretend that everything went as planned.
First, I want to personally apologize to every player who participated in the tournament this weekend. You came to our establishment expecting to play a tournament, have a good time, and receive the payouts you earned. Unfortunately, you were put in a situation that none of you should have had to deal with.
During the tournament, the tournament director, Trevor Simmons, left before the tournament was completed, and the tournament funds that had been entrusted to him were no longer available for the payouts. I want to make one thing very clear: Good Times Sports Bar did not allow our players to take that loss. We personally stepped in and covered the money necessary to make sure every player was paid their full payout. We did this because the tournament was held under our roof, and our players should never have to wonder whether the money they were promised will actually be there at the end of the night.
While we could not control the decision someone else made, we CAN control how we respond to it and what we do to prevent something like this from happening again. Because of this incident, we are changing how large tournaments will be handled at Good Times going forward. Players will be able to pay their tournament entry directly at the bar. The bar will handle and safeguard the tournament money, and the funds will remain in our possession until payouts are made. That way, regardless of who is running the bracket or directing the tournament, our players can have peace of mind knowing that their money is secure and their payouts will be there.
I am extremely sorry that this happened at our establishment. I also want to thank everyone who remained patient while we worked to make the situation right. Our pool community means too much to us to sweep something like this under the rug. When something happens at Good Times, we are going to address it, learn from it, and do everything within our power to make it right. To every player who showed up and supported this tournament: thank you. And again, I sincerely apologize that you were put in this position. We appreciate your continued support of Good Times Sports Bar more than you know.
I have spoken directly with Steve Simmons, also known as Trevor Simmons dad, regarding what happened with the tournament funds. During our conversation, he told me that he intends to make the situation right.
