🏕️🥨 THE LEGEND OF JASON’S CRYSTAL LAKE KILLER PRETZEL

They say Jason Voorhees never leaves Crystal Lake.

But apparently, nobody told him about the snack bar at the Blue Moon Drive-In.

It started after closing one night. The parking lot was empty, the projectors were off, and I was getting ready to lock up when I heard something dragging across the lobby floor.

Scrape.
Step.
Scrape.
Step.

There he stood outside the snack bar—a hockey mask, a machete, and absolutely no respect for our operating hours.

I figured this was probably a bad time to tell him we were closed.

Jason walked up to the counter and pointed at a warm soft pretzel. I handed it over plain.

He looked down at it.

Then back at me.

Then down at the machete.

“Okay,” I said. “You want toppings.”

I brushed it with garlic butter, piled on mozzarella, and added a generous sprinkle of Parmesan. A few minutes later, the cheese was melted, the edges were golden, and the whole snack bar smelled good enough to bring somebody back from the bottom of a lake.

Jason reached for it.

“Hold on. You need your marinara dipping sauce.”

He stopped.

For a guy who’s usually pretty impatient with people, he seemed willing to wait for that part.

He took the pretzel, gave me one slow nod, and disappeared into the darkness.

The next morning, I found a message scratched into the projection room door:

SAVE ME ONE.

So now we do.

🥨 JASON’S CRYSTAL LAKE KILLER PRETZEL
A warm soft pretzel brushed with garlic butter, topped with melted mozzarella and Parmesan, and served with marinara dipping sauce.

Available in the snack bar during Slasher Nights at the Blue Moon Drive-In Theatre in Gu-Win, Alabama.

Order your own. Jason doesn’t strike me as the sharing type. 🔪

🌙 BLUE MOON MEMORY LANE: WHEN PEPSI WENT CLEAR

One thing I love about owning the Blue Moon Drive-In is that a little piece of the past still gets to come alive here. A movie under the stars, a bucket of popcorn, and suddenly you’re remembering things you hadn’t thought about in years.

I'm already seeing posts about Drive-ins being a memory. Hopefully The Blue Moon Drive-in itself won't be in that "which business do you wish you could bring back?" post anytime soon.

For this post Let’s take a trip back to 1992 when The Blue Moon Was only a relic of the Gu-Win Drive-in that closed in 1986. You were renting movies, rewinding tapes, and hoping somebody remembered to return the good ones to the video store. Then Pepsi decided the future of cola was going to be… clear.

Anybody remember CRYSTAL PEPSI?

Imagine opening a cooler and seeing a bottle that looked like it ought to taste like Sprite, but the label was telling you it was cola. Your eyes and your taste buds had some things to work out!

It was a pretty good way to get people curious. Even if you weren’t a Pepsi drinker, you might buy one just to see what clear cola tasted like.

But did curiosity turn into a second purchase? That’s the part I want y’all to tell me. 👀

Crystal Pepsi’s original run was short. By 1994, it had disappeared from shelves—before the Blue Moon even opened in 1996. It has made a few limited comebacks since then, because apparently some of us never quite got over that clear bottle.

I can understand that. Running a drive-in, I see how much people enjoy revisiting a little piece of their past. Sometimes it’s a movie. Sometimes it’s a song. And sometimes it’s a soft drink you haven’t thought about since you were riding around with friends, deciding where to go on a Friday night.

That’s what I hope these Memory Lane posts will do: give us a reason to stop for a minute, remember something, and swap a few stories.

And I have to say, clear Pepsi would have had one practical advantage at the drive-in…

Spill it down your shirt in the dark, and at least the stain wouldn’t give you away quite as fast. 😂

So, who actually tried Crystal Pepsi?

🥤 Loved it and wanted it back?
🤔 Tried it once and that was enough?
👀 Never tried it, but would give it a chance?

Tell me what you thought it tasted like. Did it taste like regular Pepsi to you, or did seeing clear cola make the whole thing feel different?

If we could put one discontinued drink in the Blue Moon cooler for a weekend, would you pick Crystal Pepsi, Orbitz, or something else?

—Chris, Blue Moon Drive-In 🌙

We had talked of reopening from our short break tonight, Saturday October 10th, with Resident Evil but due to hurricane isaias making it a miserable weather situation and the power seems to be unstable we have decided to go ahead and wait till next weekend to reopen. Friday October 16th will be the start of our Slasher Nights. Right now the weather looks great for next weekend but it will take more than rain to close us next weekend because if it does begin to rain a lil too much Michael, Jason and the crew will just get in the cars with you. More information on the Slasher Nights and advance tickets can be found at bluemoondrivein.com

🪚🌭 LEATHERFACE CAME FOR THE MOVIES. HE HAD NOTES ABOUT THE HOT DOGS.

We were testing recipes for our Slasher Night menu in the Blue Moon Drive-In snack bar when a chainsaw started in the lobby.

Then stopped.

Then started again.

Apparently, somebody wanted service.

At the counter stood Leatherface, wearing an apron and holding a battered recipe box. He set it on the counter, opened it, and slid us a card labeled:

“SAWYER FAMILY COOKOUT.”

We read the ingredients.

Pimento cheese. Bacon crumbles. Hot honey.

Honestly? Better than we expected.

We made him a hot dog loaded with creamy pimento cheese and smoky bacon crumbles, then added a little hot honey.

Leatherface stared at it.

He stared at us.

He pointed at the bacon.

We added extra bacon.

He gave us a slow thumbs-up, tucked the recipe card into his apron, and headed back toward the lot.

We thought that was the end of it—until we noticed he’d left a handwritten note on the counter:

“LEATHERFACE’S SLAUGHTERHOUSE DOG.”

Underneath, in smaller letters:

“DON’T SKIMP ON THE BACON.”

We decided to respect the chef’s wishes.

🌭 Leatherface’s Slaughterhouse Dog is loaded with creamy pimento cheese, smoky bacon crumbles, and a hot honey drizzle—available in the Blue Moon Drive-In snack bar during Slasher Nights, October 16–17 & 23–24!

👁️🥤 ART SEES YOU… AND HE BROUGHT REFRESHMENTS.

Nobody remembers letting him into the snack bar.

The last car had left the Blue Moon Drive-In, the projectors were off, and we were finishing cleanup when we heard three little taps on the counter.

There stood Art the Clown, grinning.

He pointed at the Cherry slush.

His smile got wider.

Figuring it was better to give the clown a cherry slush than ask questions, we filled a cup and slid it across the counter.

Art inspected it. Tilted his head. Then slowly reached into his bag.

We took a step back.

He pulled out… candy eyeballs.

One by one, he placed them on the blood-red cherry slush, carefully turning each eye toward us. Then he tapped the bottom of the cup.

It started flashing.

Art held the glowing cup beneath his face, covered his eyes with one hand, and peeked between his fingers.

Still smiling.

He left without a sound. On the counter was a little handwritten note:

“PEEK-A-BOO. NOW THEY CAN SEE YOU, TOO.”

That’s how Art’s Peek-a-Boo Blood Slush made it onto our Slasher Nights menu.

A blood-red cherry slush topped with candy eyeballs, served in a cup with a flashing LED bottom—available in the Blue Moon Drive-In snack bar during Slasher Nights, October 16–17 & 23–24!
