Saturday at the Columbia County Fair was enjoyable for guests throughout the day and into the evening. Later that night, however, a group of unruly teenagers caused a disruption by running through the crowd and shouting, creating unnecessary panic among attendees.
For clarity, there were no guns, no gunshots, and no verified physical altercations. This situation was the result of individuals attempting to create chaos.
Columbia County Fair Management has existing safety measures in place, including ID checks, requirements for parental accompaniment, metal detectors, and the presence of Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies. While these policies are actively enforced, there are times when individuals attempt to bypass them.
Moving forward, we will be implementing stricter enforcement and additional precautions to ensure the safety and comfort of all guests. We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we continue to enhance these measures.
Our mission remains the same: to provide a safe, family-friendly environment that brings our community together while supporting local charities. We are committed to taking the necessary steps to uphold that standard.
