WHAT'S ON THE PROGRAM

Ongaeshi: The Debt of Feathers
Choreographer: Yosh*to Sakuraba

Inspired by the poignant Japanese folktale, "The Grateful Crane," this abstract contemporary work explores the fragile threads between memory, sacrifice, and loss.

Through black and white animation, intricate partnering, and emotionally-charged movement, this piece reflects on love’s quiet cost and the irreversible passage of fate.

The Schaap Center joins the Grosse Pointe Park community in mourning the passing of 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗔. 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻, a remarkable philanthropist, arts advocate, civic leader, and treasured friend of our community.

Richard’s lifelong commitment to the arts, culture, and the community he called home leaves an extraordinary legacy. At the Schaap Center, that legacy will live on through the 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆, which bears the names of Richard and his beloved wife, Jane, in recognition of their generosity and enduring belief in the power of art to enrich lives and bring people together.

We are profoundly grateful that Richard was part of the vision for the Schaap Center and that his name will forever be connected to this special place.

On behalf of the Schaap Center, we extend our deepest condolences to Jane, the Manoogian family, and all those whose lives were touched by Richard’s friendship, leadership, and generosity.

His impact on metro-Detroit and the cultural life of our region will be felt for generations.
