Guitarist Ron English brings 3 distinguished Detroit saxophone improvisers to the Dirty Dog on successive nights. On Thursday, August 13, the Ron English Crew is James Hughes, sax, Glen Oliver, bass, and Renell Gonsalves, drums. On Friday August 14, Vincent Bowens is on sax. On Saturday, August 15, Stephen Grady Jr. is the saxophonist, and Jaribu Shahid comes in on bass.

EXCITING WEEK AHEAD: The end of this week will bring two of the most special events the Detroit Jazz Festival puts on every summer, both at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe.

☝️On Thursday, July 30, it's the Youth Vocal Competition, for singers in middle and high school. These young vocalists will each perform two numbers each, competing for $1,000 and a performance spot at the festival.

✌️Then, on Friday, July 31, four finalists will compete in the Collegiate Combo Competition, presented by Central Michigan University. The winner will receive $2,000, a spot on the festival stage and a chance to play a gig on their own the very next night, also at the Dirty Dog.
