Grinnell TDPS alums Meghan and Caitlyn Baylor ‘12 returned to campus today to lead a modern dance class and give an artist talk about their personal and professional journeys post-Grinnell. Their inspirational presentation addressed some of the personal challenges they have faced and the natural evolution of their creative practice from “art they wanted to make” to “art they needed to make.”

During the presentation, Caitlyn shared the artist statement she wrote for the MAP she completed with Celeste Miller that is as true today as it was 13 years ago...

"I do believe that there are questions we can answer in certain ways, things that we know, when we engage with the world through movement. We know that our everyday motion can become art; we know why we fall; we know how to lose and regain our centers... I am convinced that active art, art that is both active in its subject matter and in the mode of its delivery can move us into something in which lies a space for more humane possibilities."

If you are in the Chicago area, check out Grinnell TDPS alum Saderholm in the Shakespeare's Motley Crew production of Midsummer Mayhem 13!

The SMC (Shakespeare's Motley Crew) is a not-for-profit Chicago theatre company that has been telling Shakespeare stories since 1992. In 2013, they introduced Midsummer Mayhem (Shakespeare shorts) to Winnemac Park in Ravenswood. Since then, they’ve added Horner Park, Independence Park, St. Matthias Church, St. Gregory the Great Parish and Gross Park in Lakeview to their summer festival tour.

For their thirteenth year, their theme is…13. 13 is lucky and unlucky. 13 is dirty glitter and green. 13 is twins.

Congratulations to Argent and Crist on their beautiful adaptation of “J Alfred Prufrock” that they staged at the Grinnell Area Arts Council. Bea and Alyssa mounted their production with the grant they received as winners of the Sandy Moffett Award!

Congratulations to the authors and casts of the two winners of the McClennon Clark One-Act Playwriting Award that were staged on Sunday at the Wall Theatre. The two productions were Broadmoore’s “My Crib” (directed by Albright) and Graham Sundström’s “The Rest of Us.”
