PUBLIC NOTICE: RABIES CONFIRMED IN CITY OF GRIFFIN

The City of Griffin has been notified that a fox involved in an incident in the Forest Hills Neighborhood area, on Springer Drive, has tested positive for rabies, according to results received from the Georgia Department of Public Health Laboratory on Friday, June 12th.

On Sunday, June 7th, the fox was observed displaying unusual and aggressive behavior, including attacking a dog and posing a threat to others nearby. The animal was recovered and submitted for testing by City of Griffin Animal Control. Griffin Police Department also responded to the incident.

Signs of a potentially rabid or sick wild animal may include unusual aggression, excessive drooling, staggering or uncoordinated movements, and nocturnal animals such as foxes, raccoons, or skunks being active during daylight hours.

The two best ways to avoid rabies exposure are to stay away from unfamiliar dogs, cats, and wild animals, and to make sure pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations.

For additional information, please review the full release from the Georgia Department of Public Health below.
