Main Street Players

Main Street Players Main Street Theatre is located in the heart of Griffin’s historic downtown at 115 North Hill Stree The creation of Main Street Players began with the dream of its founder and Artistic Director, Norma Richardson, and to return to her hometown and help expand the artistic opportunities in the community.

Joining in this endeavor were other returning natives professionally involved in theatre, Joe McKaughan, Charles Walker, and Dan Strickland. After six years of planning and preparation the dream became a reality. Main Street opened its first season on September 20, 2001, with the production of “Yours Anne” the story of Anne Frank told through music. Main Street is located in the heart of Griffin’s

Hello Backstage Friends,

Monday we start construction on the mountain top setting for Foxfire.

Our production takes place on the mountain top farm of Annie Nations. The main house porch and root cellar sit atop hills and overlook the mountains of Rabin Gap, Georgia. Constructing this carved-out-of-the-hills location will be no mean feat. Many volunteers will be needed.

If you or anyone you know would be interested in joining us please let me know. I urge you to ‘get the word out’ on this one like never before. As always, no experience is necessary.

The construction schedule for the next week is below. Please respond with the dates you’re available. Don’t just show up. If I don’t hear from anyone on a particular day I may go shopping for building materials or props.

Hope to hear from you - and see you. 🙂
BJ

August 24,2021

Dear Main Street Patron,

We are thrilled to let you know that we will light up the stage again at Main Street very soon. Thank you for the generous outpouring of financial support to help us position the theatre to reopen.

In early June ,we were focused on opening in late September, however, due to the rise in the number of Covid-Delta variant cases, we decided to take a more cautious approach and open a bit later. Soon you will be receiving the announcement of our proposed dates and shows to be featured during our 20 th Anniversary Season.

As you all know, Main Street is a small intimate theatre making it difficult to limit seating and distance attendees, staff and volunteers. In addition, we have limited backstage space and actors are in close contact on stage during performance. The decisions and safety protocols we are putting in place are designed to help protect all who attend or work at Main Street. We are in the process of finalizing our safety protocols. These will be posted on our web site and at the theatre.

We are so excited about opening the theatre and are looking forward to seeing you when the lights go up again at Main Street.

Warmest regards,

Norma Richardson

Main Street Wetumpka ~ Street Dance-off

Hey there, it’s Jessica Gregory, chair of Griffin Downtown Council. I wanted to invite you to Downtown Griffin’s 2nd Saturday Beach Party on June 13! It’s going to be all day fun, both in downtown Griffin, and a virtual online experience. So whether you are ready to be out and about, or you’re still social distancing, please plan to join in on the fun!

I wanted to specifically invite you to the “Drive By Dance Party” that is going on that day at 6pm on Hill Street. We’re asking individuals and families to line Hill Street at 6pm while maintaining social distance from others. A fire truck playing music and recording with a camera will drive by, live streaming our dance party to kick off the summer! Whether you just want to dress like a tacky tourist, don a grass skirt, or just make a sign to celebrate a milestone that you missed celebrating due to COVID, it’s all welcome! Here’s a video of our inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKwX96ExQE4.

Even if you can’t make it, we would love your help spreading the word in your professional and social circles. Please post to social media! Attached you can find some images you can post.

Dear Main Street Patrons,

Over the past week I have been carefully considering the health concerns regarding the spread of Covid-19. Sunday, March 15, the CDC issued a recommendation that organizations and groups postpone or cancel events consisting of 50 or more individuals for 8 weeks. On Monday, March16th, the number was changed to gatherings of 10 individuals.

At Main Street we are committed to doing everything possible to keep our patrons, volunteers and staff safe. A large percentage of our audience base, volunteers, designers, directors and artists fall into the category of risk for the virus. Our theatre is small and audience members are seated shoulder to shoulder.

That brings me to the action that I have taken regarding Main Street Players.
Our next show, Getting Away With Murder, scheduled to open April 15th, has been postponed to the June slot. 1776 will possibly open in September.
We will keep you informed if additional schedule changes become necessary.

We want to assure our season ticket holders that the tickets you currently hold for scheduled shows will be honored when we resume production. We are considering several ways to do this. We will keep you informed regarding this matter. Currently you don’t need to take any action. Also, at this time, our online ticket service has been discontinued until further notice. As a complete plan is put in place you will be notified.

We will continue to take precautions and actions in accordance with recommended guidelines. I believe this is prudent to help address this health issue that affects us all.

We appreciate all of your support and want you to remain safe and healthy.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We look forward to seeing you at the theatre when our productions resume.

Norma Richardson
Artistic Director

Southside Theatre Guild presents volunteer, non-equity auditions for Those Crazy Ladies in the House on the Corner. https://facebook.com/events/s/those-crazy-ladies-in-the-hous/658363441234258/?ti=cl What do you do when you have three geriatric sisters as patients and all they want to do is sit at home and talk to one another—all at the same time? You move another person in with them. At least, that's what Doc Lomax does when he has a new nurse needing a place to live—a nurse with a secret, that is. The hard part is convincing the sisters they need a roomer. In no time, however, Nurse Jean has them planning parties, pulling Halloween pranks and wearing jogging suits while they race each other to the corner. But when the nephew shows up with a plan to sell the family house, things seem to get complicated again, especially with Christmas just around the corner. This heartwarming piece is loaded with wisecracks and one-liners that keep the laughter flowing. Casting 5 women and 3 men aged 20's to 60's, 70's or maybe even 80's! One teenage boy needed, too!! Auditions are Monday Jan 27 and Tuesday Jan 28 @ 7pm at: Southside Theatre Guild 20 W. Just in time for Valentine's Day, Southside Theatre Guild presents a limited, one-week engagement A.R. Gurney's Love Letters. Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner, both born to wealth and position, are childhood friends whose lifelong correspondence begins with birthday party thank-you notes and summer camp postcards, ultimately revealing a deep and mutual love that transcends the characters' divergent paths in life. The play is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. This show is rated PG-13 for some language. Show Dates: February 14, 15, 16 and 17, 2019 Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8PM Sunday at 2:30PM Get tickets today at https://www.stgplays.com/events#love-letters
