Theatre Lighting Upgrade

Replacing the maze of extension cords over the stage with a theatre type electrical grid system is near completion. The additional dimmer packs should be ready in time for Arsenic & Old Lace. We have determined that for future improvements at the Center we need to upgrade our electrical service to 400 amps, the next major hurdle. This upgrade has been designed and executed by Jim Nordquist, assisted by Carrie Nordquist, James Carlson, Steve Miller, and Jeff Bailess.

Other Center upgrades in process include restrooms, (plumbing and painting,) heat and AC in the scene shop, and repairs to ceiling and floors.

It has been brought to our attention, again, that we need an artist to design/produce a front-of-building sign for the Center, featuring the arts. Perhaps a contest for a design (to be voted on by the Board,) with a prize for the winner, and a stipend to create it? There is another sign-hanging position, like the one for the GLT banner on the street side, or perhaps a series of panels on the north side of the building. If interested, submit a drawing to the Board of Directors.

We appreciate all volunteers for every position in the theatre, on-stage, back-stage, front-of-house, scene shop, and enlarge our call for volunteer contractors to join us in the continuing renovation of the Center for the Arts. There is room for every creative person who subscribes to this newsletter to participate in the coming season.

The doors in our inventory that were in the scene shop have all been moved to the third floor. BIG Thank You to Jordan and Matthew, Faith Christian, for their "Community Service.

Jordan is one of Marie Young's concessionaires, Matt is a good friend.

Next heavy lifting job will be to get the flats from second floor up to third. More flats than doors, but none as heavy. Goal if to have rooms in front of building demolished to brick walls.

Then comes the removal of laths and plaster to a dumpster.

Another load of excess wardrobe removed to Blanche's Closet.

For those who missed it, we had an entertaining evening with singer/songwriter Robert Stanfield. He held the stage for about 45 minutes, and during the break, we enjoyed lots of conversation, with guests and ourselves.

The next Coffee House will be September 12, and we are asking for your help in lining up the talent. If you, or someone you know and can recommend, are interested in performing, please email or call (656 3637) and let me know.

GLT is sponsoring a series of talent opportunities for "amateurs" to perform 30 minute (or less) sets of music, or poetry, or comedy in the Center for the Arts. The purpose is to give local talent and students a place to practice or learn their craft with no costs (rental etc) in front of a live audience. We're looking for acoustic musicians, singers, comics, and even visual artists to share their art.
We would like to have concessions, snacks, drinks, and "coffee" for sale, low key but profit making allowed.
There will be no admission for audience but donations accepted. and the talent is volunteer, no pay.Intimate venue, non-threatening, for singles or small groups. We might even have a short play some night.
The first night is August 15th, and the visiting artist is Robert Stanfield, one of the performers in our most recent talent show. He composes, plays keyboard and guitar, and sings his own songs. We're hoping other artists will also come and play or sing as well.
How you can help: we'll need some coffee makers, to borrow, until we raise enough $$ to buy a couple. and instead of throwaway cups, I'm collecting coffee mugs. But more important, please pass the message we're open for talent, and come join us.
