One week from today we begin our 2026-2027 season with our spooky season selection, "Broomstick," starring Portland theatre legend, Vana O'Brien.

"In Broomstick, a witch confesses all: her first love affair, how she discovered her powers, how she has used them. A completely unsentimental moralist who knows everything about the human heart—having been both its victim and avenger all her long life—she metes out inexorable justice, immune to our pleas for mercy, cackling at our excuses."

Both shows are at 7:00pm at Mt. Hood Repertory Theatre's new space, at 1294 E Powell blvd. Gresham, OR 97030.

Tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 for students/seniors.

If you're thinking of joining us for all of our shows this season (and really, why wouldn't you?), consider buying a season pass! All information on passes and ticketing can be found at: https://www.mthoodrep.com/tickets

One week after we open our season with "Broomstick," we will be presenting Sarah Ruhl's masterpiece, "In the Next Room (or, the Vi****or Play)."

A 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist, this piece explores the invention of the vi****or as a medical tool, designed to treat women who had been hospitalized with "hysteria." We will be pairing these performances with curated cocktails and food, to really transport you back to the Victorian Age.

"Set in the 1880s, at the dawn of the age of electricity, in a seemingly perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating “hysteria” in women (and occasionally men): the vi****or. Adjacent to the doctor’s laboratory, his young and energetic wife tries to tend to their newborn daughter – and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. When a new “hysterical” patient and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated relationship into the doctor’s home, Dr. and Mrs. Givings must examine the nature of their own marriage, and what it truly means to love someone."

Directed by Bryce Britton

Join us October 26th & 27th at our brand new black box for the first show of the new season, "Broomstick."

We're kicking off this next chapter of Mt. Hood Repertory Theatre's story by bringing back Vana O'Brien in her acclaimed role as the Witch in John Biguenet's spellbinding one-woman tour de force.

April will see Sarah Ruhl's second play of the year with us, "Eurydice." A lyrical retelling of the Orpheus & Eurydice myth, told from the perspective of the doomed bride. Aleksandr Chernousov will be directing and our goal is to push what readers theatre can be with this one, to create the most immersive, affecting piece possible.

"In Eurydice, Sarah Ruhl reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. With contemporary characters, ingenious plot twists, and breathtaking visual effects, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story."

In March, our new Artistic Director, Matt Sunderland, will be directing Jennifer Haley's tear-jerking exploration of identity and memory, "Breadcrumbs." We will be pairing these performances with talkbacks by Dr. Chris Mikulic, who will be speaking on the best ways to care for those suffering from memory disorders.

"A reclusive fiction writer diagnosed with dementia must depend upon a troubled young caretaker to complete her autobiography. In a symbiotic battle of wills, they delve into the dark woods of the past, unearthing a tragedy that shatters their notions of language, loneliness, and essential self."

In February, we will be producing another Lauren Gunderson piece, just in time for Valentine's Day...Alicia Turvin will be directing this hilarious show that answers the question, "would a woman rather be stuck in the woods with a bear or a man" with "why not both?"

"Nan has decided to teach her abusive husband Kyle a lesson. With the help of her friend Simon (acting as her emotional – and actual – cheerleader) and a st****er named Sweetheart, she tapes Kyle to a chair and forces him to watch as they reenact scenes from their painful past. In the piece de resistance, they plan to cover the room in meat and honey so Kyle will be mauled by a bear. Through a night of emotional trials and ridiculous theatrics, Nan and Kyle are both freed from their past in this smart, dark revenge comedy."

We're feeling...elated? Overjoyed? RTG is some kind of adjective to announce that we will be producing the Oregon premiere of Lauren Gunderson's new play, "A Room in the Castle." Alisha Christiansen will be directing this retelling of Hamlet, from the women of Elsinore's perspective, in January, and we couldn't be more thrilled to present this piece from one of America's most produced playwrights.

“How does a woman survive the court of Denmark? How does anyone? A Room in the Castle finds Ophelia, her handmaid, and Queen Gertrude on the other end of a wild prince’s antics and realizing just how dangerous life in this castle has become. A universal thriller that explores how we help one another through harrowing times, what mothering a potential madman means, and what responsibilities generations have to each other, A Room in the Castle rebrands the stories of the women of Shakespeare’s Hamlet into a hilarious and heart-rending drama with music and defiant hope for the future."

Our second show of the season will be "In the Next Room (or the Vi****or Play)", Sarah Ruhl's masterpiece of Victorian satire and sexual liberation. Directed by Bryce Britton and incorporating Foley Effects, this production is sure to be hysterical and powerful in equal measures.

"In a seemingly perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and scientist Dr.

Hello RTG Audience,

Now that Mt Hood Rep is doing full seasons of full productions, we're bringing on someone new to the team to run RTG. After seven years as Artistic Director, I will be handing the role off to Matthew Sunderland allowing me to focus on Mt Hood Rep's full productions. Mathew has directed and acted in several RTG readings and will be selecting the plays for the 2026/27 season. Enjoy Matthew's work.

I hope you are able to come to Into the Woods in August. The voices are incredible. We are very excited to be presenting our first full production of a musical in 17 years.
