What an amazing kickoff for Summer Discovery 2026! 🐢🐍
On June 5, we welcomed 34 kids to our Mississippi Animals program. Jackie Henne‑Kerr from the Museum of Natural Science brought live turtles, a snake, pelts, skulls, and even a snake skeleton. The children were absolutely mesmerized (especially by the turtles).
We had a wide range of ages, from our littlest 2‑year‑olds to a group of enthusiastic 10‑13 year olds from the Greenwood Boys & Girls Club and Greenwood Mentoring Group.
We are so grateful to Jackie for sharing her expertise, to Charles Ditto for handling registration, setup, and supplies behind the scenes, and to Cassandria Hansbrough for volunteering in the afternoon – she even touched a snake for the first time!
A huge thank you also to the mothers and grandmothers who stayed with our morning group. Your help made everything run smoothly.
What’s next?
Next Friday, June 12, we’re diving into Cotton & Farming – from boll to blue jeans! Morning session (10:30‑12:00) is geared for ages 7 & under, afternoon (1:00‑3:00) for ages 8+. Pre‑registration is encouraged.
