During my first year of business, I happen to meet a gentleman in a FB resale group, who had his own part-time business selling ties online, but his full-time job was with the UN. We quickly became friends though we had never met. He lived in New York which is quite a distance from Mobile Alabama. On my one year anniversary, he sent me an email saying to contact a young lady who was a friend of his that lived in Ukraine, and tell her what I would want for a video. She offered several options none of which were inappropriate, actually comical. She ended up being nice enough to let me use two of the features, which was my email address and the surprise at the end. We probably didn't talk but 5 minutes and she had the video to me by the end of the day.
I remember thinking to myself, I wonder what it's like living in a country like Ukraine, a small nation trying to get up on their feet after countless chapters in there struggle to Independence, always in the shadow of such a large super power, with a history most born in the United States will never understand.
She was probably 12 to 15 years younger than me, which means she wouldn't have remembered much if anything at all about communist Soviet Union. I remember the Gorbachev and Reagan meetings because it was very cold and mobile when they were covering it extensively. I'm almost certain it snowed in Mobile which has been known to happen three times in my life,
I hope she is safe. It's one of those rare feelings where you almost feel guilty for only being able to empathize. God be with her.
