🥭 May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

In collaboration with nine artists from the Colorado South Asian Artists Group, the Curtis Center and City of Greenwood Village is honoring the history, culture, and contributions of people of South Asian descent with our exhibit "Cultural Continuum" at City Hall.

The works on view represent an array of styles, media, and themes by artists living in Colorado from the South Asian diaspora.

The artwork featured is by artist Mitra Verma, who wrote the following about this piece:

"Welcome to Rajasthan, India’s “Land of Kings and Colors,” where every vibrant hue tells a story of valor, royalty, and celebration. This traditional Phad Painting captures the grandeur of Rajput warriors and the festive spirit of life in the golden desert. The bold reds and yellows radiate energy, symbolizing a culture that finds joy even in its harsh landscape. Historically, these paintings served as “traveling cinemas.” Storytellers carried them from village to village, unrolling them at night to bring their tales to life through song and flickering lamplight."

You can catch Cultural Continuum at Greenwood Village City Hall (6060 S Quebec St) now through June 23.

Poetry Writing in the Gallery
Monday, June 15 | 6 to 8 p.m. | $15

Join poetry guide, Nancy Levenson, for a night of blending your love of art with your own poetic words. This is a 2-hour special program that will be held during the Curtis Center's Watercolor Society exhibit. Through a mixture of examples, discussion, and prompts, you’ll have the chance to respond to selected works of visual art and generate your own poems. We will have an optional group sharing and open mic.

Through the artful interplay of words and imagery, these poems offer a fresh perspective and expand upon original artwork, bridging the gap between visual and literary realms. Nancy encourages all levels of poets to explore how images can evoke emotion, memory, and story, and how we can translate what we see and sense into powerful poetic language.
