As we step into September, let’s bask in the warmth and glow of the sunflower. The enduring symbol of light, joy, and the lingering beauty of summer, Sally Sutton has captured it all. With bold golden petals and vibrant presence, these sunflowers will bring energy and optimism to any space - timeless works to enjoy throughout the seasons.

"Golden Breeze" and "Golden Chorus" are both 20x20 and available.

Jaquelin Perry recently completed this commissioned painting featuring the wild horses of Shackleford Banks within Cape Lookout National Seashore.

Shackleford Banks is home to more than 100 wild horses, descendants of horses that have roamed these barrier islands for centuries.

There is something particularly compelling about painting these beautiful animals because they aren't simply "horses on a beach". As one of our state's most iconic coastal treasures, they embody a powerful connection between animal, landscape, history, and place.

The horses - and the wild landscape they call home - draw us in, evoking a sense of freedom, resilience, wonder, and untamed beauty that speaks to the enduring character of the Outer Banks.

A distinctive addition to the collection it will join, “Grazing at the Cape” serves as a beautiful reminder of a landscape that is wild, rare, deeply rooted in the history of our coast, and unmistakably North Carolina.

Congratulations are in order! Starting today, Richard Fennell's "Self-Portrait" is on view as part of East Carolina University's School of Art and Design Annual Alumni Exhibition.

Titled "RE/collection", the exhibition offers a point of departure rather than a directive. The title suggests ideas of return, reflection, accumulation, and transformation—whether revisiting past work, rethinking materials, or tracing how a practice evolves over time.

Artists may choose to engage these ideas directly, or simply use this opportunity to share recent work that reflects their current direction. The exhibition embraces a range of approaches, highlighting both continuity and change across the diverse practices of ECU alumni.

Fennell's portraiture has won numerous awards throughout his career including the Dean's Cross from the Virginia Theological Seminary in 2025. Swipe to view some of his previous commissioned portraits.

The show runs through September 26, across 4 venues:
Wellington B. Gray Gallery
Janice Hardison Faulkner Gallery
Emerge Gallery and Art Center
Proctor-Yongue House
