Critter Keeper

Critter Keeper So much fun, it’s SCARY!!! The Critter Keeper will bring the critters, magic and scares. You provide the venue, oohs, aahs, and goosebumps.

Folks, here’s a new party idea. Have a bug-day party for adults, with no larvae or pupae present. Everybody comes dressed as a bug. Invite the Critter Keeper, and he’ll bring his bugs, with a few reptilian and amphibious sidekicks.

Laughs will be rampant.

Screams will be heard.

Memories will be made.

Happy birthday again, Audrey! Thanks for the invite!

PRO TIP: When settling a giant centipede into a new enclosure, always put the intended enclosure into a large bin that the centipede won’t be able to climb out of. You know, in case the centipede shoots out of the new enclosure and catches a whiff of FREEDOM before you can get the lid on.

Now, please pardon me as I prepare a taller enclosure and allow my heart rate to slow down.

I really don’t like the way blood pythons let you know they’d like a “personal day.”

Enjoying my last evening at home for a few days. Tomorrow, we head up to Gaffney and Blacksburg for library programs, before venturing up to Hickory, NC, for programs up that way for the next few days. It’ll be a pretty good time, except for me, who will to endure things “going bump in the night” with the critters overnighting in the hotel room with me.

As for the bison incident that has gone viral, I don’t know that the guy did anything necessarily wrong; he just was in the wrong place at the wrong time with a rutting male bison.

It sounds like he’ll be okay, but it underscores the importance of respecting ALL animals, whether it be a bison, venomous snake, or a colorful spiny caterpillar you find in your backyard.

I intend to elaborate during the library programs over the next few days.

Hope to see you there!

Nothing much going on; just chilling in the hotel after library programs in Salisbury and Cleveland, NC. Tomorrow we’ll be in Rockwell and China Grove for a couple of programs at each library before heading home late tomorrow afternoon.

I’m currently watching USA struggle against Belgium with each critter firmly ensconced and snoozing in their respective travel bins.

I would have let them watch the game with me, but none of them expressed much interest, so I’m watching the game alone.

You know what they say - “You snooze, you lose.”

Go USA !

I have to admit, I got a little concerned showing up at an “Animal Adventure” summer camp this afternoon, and finding it in a private domicile in a residential neighborhood. Did I get the address wrong?

Nope!

The Lead Counselor and Camp Organizer of this Animal Adventure was the only adult overseeing activities with about a dozen children, ranging in ages from about 7 months up to maybe 8 years old. Let’s just call her “Mom.”

Mom was busily dissecting a frog on the dining room table, surrounded by a variety of kids (her own, along with some friends and neighbors) all adorned in various lab gear such as disposable smocks and neoprene gloves. The frog’s heart and liver had already been removed and explained.

I was impressed. It might rank as one of the coolest things I’ve seen this summer.

In my book, that’s some “Mom of the Year” material right there.

Happy to report that none of MY animals were dissected, but they definitely provided the adventure!

I had to pose with my Hydrosaurus weberi with a couple of inflatables. We’re celebrating Summer Reading’s theme of “Unearthing A Story.”

I didn’t get but one picture of Ashes skittering up and down the aisles looking for something to read. I was too busy trying to keep up with her to catch her.

Yes, and at least one librarian literally climbed onto a chair.
