Join us for a FREE l.a. writers’ lab’s 90-Day Play course! Read the book, write, and join us as actors, performers, directors, dramaturgs, and writers gather in the service of crafting new theatrical work. Email us at [email protected] to reserve your spot.

We will meet every two weeks beginning Tuesday, July 1. Our final meeting will be Tuesday, September 30.

Each meeting will last for approximately one hour. Outside of the meetings, you will read the assigned pages of the book and write!

By the end of this playwriting intensive, you will have a completed script of a brand-new work!

See you tonight for our staged reading of Slanted Literature by Stephanie Underwood! The reading will take place in the Youth Room at 7:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served at intermission and a talkback with the playwright will follow the reading.

Meet the playwright of Slanted Literature and make plans to join us for the reading on May 29 at 7:30 pm !

Stephanie Underwood has been an entertainer from a very young age and has always loved reading, writing, and telling stories. She graduated from Bob Jones University with a BA in Creative Writing and Dramatic Productions and has since written plays for theaters, schools, and churches. Some favorites include The Unexpected Murder at Greenville Theater, Jack the Detective at Riverside High School, and Meant for Good and Marie and the Nutcracker at Greenville Classical Academy.

Join us on May 29 at 7:30 for a staged reading of Stephanie Underwood’s play, Slanted Literature!

What if Romeo hadn’t fallen in love with Juliet? What if Elizabeth had pursued Darcy? What if Dracula just wanted to be left alone? These and other possibilities are explored in Slanted Literature, a play about a web show where we take a slightly different look at the classics. Put on by four amateur actors and one seasoned veteran, they are just hoping to get as many views and likes as possible, all while juggling pranks, on-again-off-again relationships, and figuring out who’s running the camera next!

In the play, a series of overly confident knights match wits with a wily dragon in an attempt to liberate a captive princess. Shiny treasure, secret agendas, artisanal weaponry—a dragon’s work is never done. Classic fairytale tropes meet a modern spin in this dark comedy.

David Schwingle is a voice and acting coach (PRA), playwright (MFA), actor, and director. He’s been teaching and creating theatre for over 20 years. David writes new plays, acts in Shakespeare’s, and coaxes actors and new work onto the stage. He has a passion for creating new stories and sharing them with an audience, and he loves helping others do the same. He currently teaches at Bob Jones University where he serves as Department Head of Theatre and Fine Arts Artistic Director.
