Discussion & Planning on a New Secondary Education based Michigan Theatre Festival.

This page is for Educators who want to provide input on creating a new Theatre Festival for Michigan students in Secondary Ed. This Festival would either replace the current MIFA Theatre System or act as an Adjunct to it.

We are evaluating what might need to be done to relaunch WMTF in 2024. If you are staff member at your school, please reach out to Chris Chapman if you would be interested in joining us in creating a new board of directors and taking WMTF to the next step.

Things change. The WMTF was created to do a new approach to Theatre Festivals in Michigan for secondary students. We've been very proud of the results and how we've hopefully impacted students and programs from across the state.

WMTF is based at Greenville High School, and starting in the 2022/2023 Season, GHS is redoing their production calendar and unfortunately there is no space in the schedule for a Festival show in January/February.

We have had a great time working with the fantastic programs and students from across the state and hope that the many great friendships and professional relationships can continue.

Keep creating great art and inspiring students to be the best performer, technician or artist they can be. Thank you again, and break a leg!

Right now we should have been finishing show 2, looking at a lunch break for WMTF 2022, but things happen. GHS is going into tech today for “Puffs.” We miss all of our WMTF friends and wish your shows the best in the coming weeks. Break a leg!

Email went out to Directors this morning. We are very sad to announce that the 2022 West Michigan Theatre is cancelled. We did not take this decision lightly. We conferred with our partners at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre and Western Michigan University and felt that at this time we do not want to put students and future performances in February at risk. Please keep creating amazing art, and we look forward to seeing you in 2023! Break a leg!
