The Fine Art and Instruction of Dan Helgemo

The Fine Art and Instruction of Dan Helgemo Fine Artist/ Painter specializing in portraits and representational painting and instruction in drawi

Courses studying and practicing the naturalistic/ impressionistic techniques of painting first imparted in 19th century European academies and studio schools and then refined and broadened by a select group of 19th and 20th century American painters, often referred to as the Boston School. Students will learn about these methods and philosophies as applied to doing master copies, still life, port

rait and figure drawing and painting; often working directly from the live model. Training is also offered in landscape painting, both in studio and on location- or "plein air". Classes will be small (only 1 to 3 students, often one on one) and fill up quickly. Teaching will proceed through demonstration, discussion, short and long term student projects and one on one critiques. Emphasis will be given to composition and design, doing a simple start, color and value unity, relational seeing, getting the "light effect" and the history of American impressionism (also referred to as the Boston School).
