Still Water
I'm Linda Hanf Kriegel, a self-taught artist living in Easley, South Carolina on our 50-acre property, On Golden Creek Farm. I began painting in acrylics last year after a local business requested a 4" - 5" commission.
Having mostly worked in dry media such as pastels, graphite, and colored pencil, I knew a piece that large would be difficult and extremely expensive to mat, frame, and place under glass. So I purchased a canvas and began working in acrylic paints. The finished piece was well received, and I discovered a new passion.
Since then I have been exploring texture and experimenting with different materials, and I love the wide range of effects they bring to my paintings. Many of my skies are inspired by the thousands of sunrise and sunset photographs I have taken here on our farm.
This piece, Still Waters, was based on a golden, magical sunset I captured in the marsh at the coast. While working on the composition, I experimented with rice paper and modeling paste to build texture, and the painting seemed to take on a life of its own, capturing the quiet, reflective feeling of the marsh at sunset.
