It’s about time I made this announcement— my artwork is officially available at ! 🎉

I’m so excited for this new opportunity in Asheville in a smaller, more curated space.

My setup would not have been possible without helping me install, and helping me uninstall. Incredibly grateful to both of you! 🙏🏻💕

On to a new Asheville Adventure! 😊

“People who love their country can change it.” - President Obama

I’m posting this piece today not just because today marks the birth of our nation, but also because I have been thinking about this one so much lately…

In light of the recent Supreme Court decisions, it feels so easy to want to just give up. People in this country threaten to move to other countries at times like these, right?

But what will that solve?

No country is without problems. There will always be things that make you furious and things that make you feel proud to live where you do.

But I truly believe the best change, the most lasting change, comes from a place of love.

We can’t stop caring. We can’t throw our hands up in the air and bury our heads in the sand. We have to learn to love this broken place for all its faults.

And we have to take accountability for our own roles in being complacent. We have to CARE. And we have to keep caring to reclaim and rebuild a country where we all feel that we belong.

This past Saturday I did my first outdoor art show since 2021.

My goal of doing art shows again was to meet more local Artist friends, and get my artwork into the hands of new people. That’s exactly what happened on Saturday, and I’m grateful for that.

But…

I’m not sure this is the direction I want to lean into with my art in the future. So even though this was a good weekend and I’ve signed up to do a few more local shows towards the end of the year, I’m not sure how many I’ll do next year.

We shall see…

I’m so excited to be a part of the Artists of the Upstate Juried Exhibition 2023!

And I am LOVING my spot in the tent— right at the front! 🤗

Jurying will take place today and winners will be announced this evening I believe. Either way, I’m grateful to have been invited to participate! 🙏🏻❤️

If you’re local, be sure to stop by the tent and take a look. It’s right in front of the Peace Center.

I’m so excited and honored to announce that “Invisible Strength” has been selected for the 2023 Artists of the Upstate Exhibit at Artisphere! 🎉

53 works of art were chosen out of over 200 submissions for this exhibit. All 53 pieces will be on display at Artisphere from May 12th through May 14th. Award Winners for Best in Show, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, and Award of Excellence will be announced during the weekend of the event.

How cool is that?!

Check out all of the Artists and their selected works here: https://artisphere.org/exhibit/artists-of-the-upstate/

And if you’re local and planning to attend Artisphere, I’d love it if you visited the exhibit! 🤗❤️

In case you didn’t know, on Easter I broke the humorous in my right arm. Unfortunately I am right handed, so that has meant no writing, driving or making new artwork.

I am hopeful that I will be able to return to making art slowly over the next month or so, but this is my x-ray from yesterday… you can probably see that I still have a ways to go before I’m totally back to normal.🥴

I really appreciate any and all support during this time. 🙏🏻❤️ I just wanted to be sure to explain that no, I have not given up on my artwork— I have more new ideas than ever! But they will have to wait. 👎🏻

“Feather” 🪶

Interestingly, I’ve gotten feedback that this is more of a “design” piece. I believe that was the word that was used, and the implication is that it lacks depth and any significance beyond what you see at face value.

If you’ve followed me and my story, you know that this piece is deeply personal for me. It absolutely tells the story of a friendship that got me through a tough time, and that has had a lasting impression on my life.

I struggle with the desire for my art to be able to stand on its own, and my inclination to want to make sure everyone knows that there is always meaning behind my work.

Sure, maybe it looks like it’s just a feather. But I’m not sure how you can see this piece within my collection and not wonder if maybe there’s something more.

“Feather” is now available as a giclee print in 10x20 inches. Comment here or dm me if you’re interested ❤️

A few styled photos of “Reclamation” as a print 🇺🇸

This isn’t just a flag. If you remember, I imprinted the quote “people who love their country can change it” all throughout the work. And you can see that in the prints too (if you know what you’re looking for 😉).

Prints for this piece are available now in 8x10 and 11x14. Comment here or dm me if you’re interested. ❤️

This is the reality of my creative space.

Day 17 of March Meet the Maker was Creative space, and Day 23 was Reality.

I almost didn’t share this picture because it’s not particularly social media worthy, but the reality is that my studio is messy 99.9% of the time. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Of course there are lots of excuses I could give you. I’m busy all the time, my space is VERY small, etc. etc.
#
The truth is that I enjoy a little bit of messiness! Maybe not this messy, but at least a little bit! 🤪

I’m a messy person. It’s who I am and I’ve accepted it. I think it partly has to do with me being dyslexic, and partly it’s just who I am as a person. And after 35 years of being this way, I don’t think I’m likely to change. So might as well accept it! 😊

I’ll also mention a few things other than my messiness. You might notice some artwork on the wall, and perhaps some other trinkets? 👀

All of the art are pieces I’ve collected over time that inspire me. And the trinkets are all very special to me— especially Ganesh, who I would not call a trinket, but who watches over me as I work ❤️

Do you like to keep your workspace tidy all the time or do you accept your messiness like me?

The Day 14 prompt for March meet the maker was “Big or small”.

On top you’ll see one of the largest pieces I’ve made yet (10x20 inches). On the bottom you’ll see one of the smallest framed pieces I’ve made (about 1.5 inches).

Working small is definitely more in my comfort zone. I love working on tiny details.
On the other hand, I love to push my boundaries and create pieces that are much larger than I could have previously imagined. 🙌🏻

What do you think— big or small? 🤔
