Obituary and memorial service information for the innovator and creator of the Can’t Stop the Music: Virtual Concert Series. Devin saw a need to continue live music while supporting musicians and venues alike during the pandemic. He will be greatly missed throughout the upstate music scene.

Devin Campbell, a Musician and life-long resident of Greenville, SC, died unexpectedly after a brief illness on March 13, 2023 at the age of 34 working as a Cruise Line Musician while touring South America on Holland America.

Devin is survived by his mother, Steva Campbell, his Aunts, Beverly Renee Beschen and Joyce Len Campbell, his cousins, Justin Campbell and Jason Campbell, his second cousins Sierra Campbell and Layne Campbell. He is predeceased by his Grandfather, Billie Arlin Campbell, his Grandmother, Joann Stone Campbell and his Uncle, Shawn Campbell.

Devin was born in Denver, Colorado on November 5, 1988. He graduated from Southside Christian School, Fine Arts Center, and the University of Belmont in Nashvile, TN with a Bachelor Degree in Music. He was the Former Founding Music Director of The Musicnasium Music School in Greer, SC which focused on teaching young children the beauty of music. After this he proceeded to dedicate his love of teaching and music to students at USC Upstate where he held numerous roles. While at USC Upstate he was Assistant Director: Commercial Music Combo at USC Upstate Commercial Music Program, Director of Jazz Ensemble at USC Upstate Commercial Music Program and Music Director: Commercial Music Ensemble at USC Upstate Commercial Music Program.

Devin was a devoted Son, accomplished music teacher and an amazingly skilled and talented musician. He lived his life doing what he loved, teaching and performing music. He was a beautiful soul, kind, sweet, empathic, wise beyond his years, and always helping others in any way he could including giving you the shirt off his back if needed. Additionally, he was known for his ability to always sense when things were wrong and knew exactly what to say to help others in these situations.

Devin's dedication and work ethic was second to none, he gave every part of himself and took pride it being the best musician possible. Never was there anything to big or to complicated for him to handle. He would always find a way to get it done even if it meant sacrifices in other aspects of life. His work was his passion and his love. He always said it's not work if you are doing something you love. But he worked extremely hard because music meant everything to him. It was his Passion and he loved and lived for it.

Devin meant the world to those around him and he thought the world of y’all too. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greenville Humane Society in Devin’s honor as he was a huge lover of animals and especially his pug, Jewels.

Devin's Memorial Service is Saturday, 4/1, 2 pm at Cremation Society of South Carolina - Westville Funerals
6010 White Horse Road, Greenville

(BASED ON INTERVIEW with Boston Rock Radio Journalist Thomas Amoriello Jr)

We are excited to welcome Dale Stephens to the Guitar God line-up for our concert series! Tune in Saturday May 9th at 8 pm!

Fave gear:
I have a custom guitar assembled by John Suhr, with custom Tom Anderson pickups as my main. I am an ESP Artist and have played ESP guitars for decades. Seymour Duncan is building me a custom pickup which I will feature on my next record. I use Ampeg heads, and a combination of Randall and ENGL cabinets.

Who are a few of the guitarists that you admired when you were in your formative years?
In electric guitar: Peter Frampton, Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Steve Lukather, Neal Schon
Flamenco/Classical: Andres Segovia, Paco DeLucia, Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin, Peter White
Jazz/Fusion: Allan Holdsworth, Django Reinhardt, Frank Gambale, Scott Henders

What are your current musical happenings that have kept you busy?
I am debuting my band, Dale Stephens Group, in July. I have been composing music and getting the right band members together for quite some time. It was a great moment when we heard all members working together to make the magic. Music never leaves, it comes and possesses my mind until composition, and then the process starts again...
