Feature this month in our June group exhibit are the the intimate animal paintings of Gay Freeborn.

Born in Palo Alto CA and now a long time resident of Maine, Gay paints with oils on canvas or linen.Coming from an artistic family background and exceptional high school art program there was no lack of encouragement to create.  She studied sculpture and design at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. Returning to painting after many years of developing an interior and landscape design business, she focuses her work on capturing the likeness and emotions of animals, especially the relationship between man and his canine best friend. Gay paints other animals as well, inspired by my deep feelings for the Maine countryside, the horses on her farm and 7 devoted Labrador Retrievers."I convey the motion, shape and love for the animal with loosely applied sweeping brushstrokes or pallet knife. Using glazing mediums, wax, chalk dust and thick over painting to sculpt subjects on the canvas, I bring them to life in an unconventional form."

The Landscape Flora and Fauna paintings of Lynne Lockhart are on display this month for our June Group Show

Painting is a visual language and so is much of the language of animals. The quiet observation of the natural world, both wild and tame provides endless painting possibilities. No matter the subject, the application of paint to canvas is the easy part. Understanding anatomy, the nature of light and knowing your materials are only some of the variables one gets to juggle. However, the real challenge for me is the interpretation of what I see. That is the translation from subject to canvas. It is this translation through the artist that makes the difference in painters. Our facts may be the same but our truths are different.

Laura McMillan's pastels are featured in this month's group show

Laura is a 1977 graduate of the International School of Brussels in Belgium, where she was awarded a prize for proficiency in art. Her proximity to Paris allowed her to study the French Impressionists and examine their use of color. Two years of traveling
throughout Europe broadened her artistic awareness and inspired her to pursue a career in art.

She went on to study painting and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1981 from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, then spent the following twelve years in Chicago exhibiting oil paintings, pastels & collage boxes
and selling her painted furniture.

New Paintings from Frank DePietro's Magnolia Blossom Series are on view at the gallery in our current June Group Show

My work is derived from experiences making traditional landscape and plein air paintings. Conceptually similar, it is an attempt to capture time, through the changes of light and color displayed in the natural world. I find that I prefer to working in the controlled environment of a studio, where I can spend long periods of unlimited time with my subject matter, contemplating relationship of nature to the formal elements of painting. I begin my process with a photographic search

Kirk McBride is one of our featured artists for this month's June group exhibition.

Carrying on the traditions of American painting.

In recent years Kirk McBride has traveled the East Coast from Florida to Maine exploring the docks and fishing shacks, The marshes and beaches, the old wooden boats and the people who make a living from the sea. His paintings are a way of chronicling this vanishing piece of American life.
