Glad he was fired. This was long overdue and sheds light on why other officers were so comfortable being racist.

Senatobia Police Chief Harold Vanderford was fired Tuesday night after city leaders rejected his resignation.

The decision followed an investigation that found Vanderford had used racial slurs, including the N-word, more than a dozen times in text messages sent over the past year.

Mississippi students are returning to the classroom under a new statewide attendance law. Senate Bill 2103 limits students to five absences per semester, with parents allowed to excuse up to three through written notes. After the third absence, additional missed days must be supported by medical documentation. The law also strengthens the requirements for students to be counted present and remain eligible to participate in athletics and other school activities.

A school bus carrying students was struck on the first day of school in South Panola.

From the district:

A vehicle traveling on Kyle Street struck the rear of South Panola School District Bus 264 this morning.

Emergency Medical Services and law enforcement responded immediately. EMS is evaluating each student and the bus driver as a precaution.

Parents of students on Bus 264 will be contacted as quickly as possible with additional information. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure the well-being of everyone involved.
