Michael Sowers: Dexter Cross

1.I enjoy it for the interaction with the cast and crew. These are people that I would never get a chance to meet without being in plays.
My favorite part is the audience interaction and reaction.
I liked being in Fiddler on the Roof, and I enjoyed Shadow of Doubt playing opposite my wife.
I hope the audience gets a deeper meeting and are not just entertained.
β€œ If you think about it, we are breathing tree-excrement.”

Luke Hollis: Jonathan Lake

1. I enjoy everything about acting. Ever since I was a kid, I loved pretending to be someone else doing something else. However, it wasn't until I came to college that I started thinking of acting as what it really can be, an art. I enjoy the performance aspect as well. It's always refreshing to see how the audience responds to the play and our interpretation of it.
2. The best part about a new show is that no one in the audience knows what to expect. Every plot twist, line reading, and set piece is entirely new to them. We have the element of surprise on our side. We also don't have any expectations to meet. With some of the better-known plays, people have a notion of what it should be, and it can be difficult to meet those expectations while getting a fresh take on the script. With an original script, we don't face that problem.
3. It's hard to choose just one, but I think the show that grew me the most as a performer was an original play last spring called Risk. This was the part that stretched me into connecting my thoughts to the text in the script. When I started to think about acting this way, it changed everything for me.
4. I am very excited that such an emotionally stimulating deep modern play is being performed at BJU. Between all of the Shakespeare and romantic comedies, a little melodrama is just what we needed. I'm also excited that this play is brand new!
5. "Real love doesn't stay for the same reason it first arrived."

Mary Ann Perez: Avelyn Carrow

1. Why do you enjoy acting? Interpreting and portraying the personality of the character. I love the challenge of becoming that person for a moment, and even learning from the character. Acting is entertainment, but there is also an element of learning life, both for the actors and for the audience. Acting is hard work, but so rewarding.

2. What is your favorite part of creating a new show? It’s been interesting watching the director develop the play without the benefit of a benchmark. Being the first to participate in a new play is challenging, and it is truly an honor.

3. what is your favorite (past) character or show you have played? A non-speaking witch in Macbeth.

4. What excites you the most about this show? The message is a critical one. Many of us have or will be touched by the issue addressed in this play. It presents a potentially devastating life event with hope and gracious acceptance.

5. What is your favorite line from the show? β€œMy intellectual obesity needs your intellectual kick in the pants.”

Janie Board: Brittany

1) It's always fun to pretend to be someone you're not. But my favorite part is working as an ensemble as we create these characters and their world, discovering and shaping how they interact to the things around them.

2) New works are a particular passion of my mine, and I've had amazing opportunities to be involved with many. There's so many wonderful things that come with creating something new, but hands down my favorite part is hearing the feedback of the audience - how the show touched them, what they picked up on, what they liked or even didn't like. They're the reason why I was involved with the show in the first place, to communicate or show something to them, so I always love hearing from and talking with the audience.

3) I don't know if I could pick just one... Probably one of my favorite past shows I've been in would be "Midnight Vesper Dream" - it was my first experience in experimental theatre as we created a new work through ensemble exercises, and it really helped define who I am artistically today.

4) There's a lot of unique things about this new work, and it also has a very candid and sensitive look into humanity. I'm most excited for the audience to see it, so they can share in the experience and learn something with us.

5) "I hate whales." ;)
