Luke Hollis: Jonathan Lake
1. I enjoy everything about acting. Ever since I was a kid, I loved pretending to be someone else doing something else. However, it wasn't until I came to college that I started thinking of acting as what it really can be, an art. I enjoy the performance aspect as well. It's always refreshing to see how the audience responds to the play and our interpretation of it.
2. The best part about a new show is that no one in the audience knows what to expect. Every plot twist, line reading, and set piece is entirely new to them. We have the element of surprise on our side. We also don't have any expectations to meet. With some of the better-known plays, people have a notion of what it should be, and it can be difficult to meet those expectations while getting a fresh take on the script. With an original script, we don't face that problem.
3. It's hard to choose just one, but I think the show that grew me the most as a performer was an original play last spring called Risk. This was the part that stretched me into connecting my thoughts to the text in the script. When I started to think about acting this way, it changed everything for me.
4. I am very excited that such an emotionally stimulating deep modern play is being performed at BJU. Between all of the Shakespeare and romantic comedies, a little melodrama is just what we needed. I'm also excited that this play is brand new!
5. "Real love doesn't stay for the same reason it first arrived."
