Our Nov 7 market is coming up soon and I’d like to take a moment to thank all the vendors, musicians and Poe West, specifically Six & Twenty Distillery (our sponsor) and Carolina Bauernhaus/The Fermentery for everything you’ve done to help make this year happen.
I never knew the market would grow this big. We started at Paper Moon 7 years ago for fun. But I’ve kept working to make it better every year, trial and error, sweat and tears, because I have also been a vendor for 15 years. I understand how hard it is to set up and sell somewhere.
I keep fees low and accessible. I try to keep the vendors and customers satisfied. It’s a lot of work.
I do the majority of the work, and my partner Sam helps me. He’s a wonderful and kind man who loves animals and anything odd, and he also is a full time caretaker to my elderly and disabled mom for the last 4 years. If it weren’t for him, there would be no Weirdo Market, no RHPS or maybe even Paper Moon. He’s been the labor, grunt work and babysitter. We have no family to help care for my mom.
I have 3 kids. A son who is about to be 18! He will be a legal adult, wow time flies! A daughter in college at USC, she’s 19. And another daughter who is 27.
I am an only child. So no siblings to help.
Sometimes I wonder if I’m doing too much. If I should give myself a break. I run 4 businesses. And all of them except 1 are arts related and help the community.
Being human is hard. I know it’s hard for everyone right now. But lifting up each other, having patience and compassion is so important. We all have lives of our own, but when we connect, we can build something meaningful together.
Next year, I’m using a different ticketing platform to better assist vendors. I’m making a slightly different layout for spaces. I’ve listened to your concerns and suggestions and will do everything I can to make it easier for everyone.
I’m so proud of the market and everyone who has worked with me, supported me and been a friend to me all these years.
It’s so important to Greenville to have a market like this. I know so many other markets have many rules and requirements. Application fees. And high space fees in general.
We need diy and eclectic art markets in Greenville. Without them, the city will close in on anything we love and make it bland and only for the wealthy.
I grew up in this town. I remember how it was. And I’m not going to let anyone or anything stop me from growing in my own way with it.
We won’t be left behind. We are here to stay!
Stay weird Greenville!
Shop local and support small businesses.
I love you all!
