🌾 HARVEST SEASON SAFETY: SHARE THE ROAD 🚜

Harvest season is here in Decatur County, which means you’ll be seeing more tractors, combines, grain carts, and other large farm equipment on our roads.

These vehicles are often traveling much slower than regular traffic and may take up most — or even all — of the roadway. A little patience can make a big difference.

If you're driving:
🚜 Slow down when approaching farm equipment.
🚗 Do not tailgate — farm equipment may need to stop suddenly.
⚠️ Be extremely careful when passing. Make sure the operator isn't preparing to make a left turn.
🛑 Never pass near an intersection, railroad crossing, bridge, tunnel, or other areas where visibility is limited.
📵 Put the distractions away and keep your attention on the road.
⏰ Give yourself extra time to reach your destination.

If you're operating farm equipment:
Make sure your equipment is properly marked and visible to other drivers, and use extra caution when entering or traveling on public roads.

Remember: Harvest season is busy enough without a preventable crash.

Be patient. Slow down. Share the road. And help our farmers get home safely. 🌾

🎃👻 DON’T LET CAR SEAT SAFETY BE THE SCARIEST PART OF YOUR HALLOWEEN! 👻🎃

Spooky Season is here! As you’re getting the kids dressed up, heading to trunk-or-treats, Halloween parties, or simply out for a night of trick-or-treating, don’t forget about one of the most important safety steps—making sure your child is properly secured in their car seat or booster seat. 🚗🧡

Here are a few quick reminders:

🎃 Check the fit. Make sure your child’s harness is snug and properly positioned.

👻 No bulky costumes in the car seat. Coats, puffy costumes, and other bulky clothing can prevent the harness from fitting properly. If your child is wearing a costume, consider putting a blanket over the harness after they are buckled in.

🍬 Make sure the car seat is installed correctly. A car seat should not move more than about one inch side-to-side or front-to-back when checked at the belt path.

🕷️ Use the right seat for your child. Children should remain in each stage—rear-facing, forward-facing with a harness, and booster seat—as long as possible based on the car seat manufacturer's height and weight limits.

🚗 Everyone buckles up! Make sure every child—and every adult—is properly restrained on every trip, even if you’re only driving a short distance.

🎃 Watch for little ghosts and goblins! Halloween means more children walking around neighborhoods, crossing streets, and moving between parked cars. Slow down and stay extra alert, especially in residential areas.
